BYD Shark pickup now available with Truckman hardtops and tonneau covers.

BYD Shark pickup now available with Truckman hardtops and tonneau covers. * 21 October 2026 * 0 * Natalie Middleton BYD has partnered with British accessories specialist Truckman to launch an approved range of rugged, practical upgrades for its all-new plug-in hybrid Shark double cab pickup. The new line-up brings a selection of load bed hardtops, tonneau covers and cross bars. All items are available to order directly from BYD dealers, backed by a three-year warranty and with the convenience of nationwide fitting from Truckman. The new fitments will enable Shark buyers to customise their vehicles to their exact requirements for business use, leisure, or both. Among the accessories is the Grand Hardtop, priced at £2,716.22 (incl. VAT). It's colour-coded to match the vehicle and comes with pop-out windows, rear window heating and remote central locking. This adds extra weatherproof carrying capacity for the 1200-litre load bed, yet maintains a sleek appearance thanks to its curving window line. For a more rugged alternative, the M-Series modular hardtop comes with a durable powder-coated finish that makes it tough enough to live up to even more demanding applications. Gull-wing side windows enable easy loading and unloading from both the sides and the rear of the vehicle, and the modular design with multiple mounting options enables the M-Series to carry a range of accessories. It's priced at £2,412.00 (incl. VAT). Shark owners will also be offered a choice of two tonneau covers. One features a manually retractable cover (£1,245.60) while the other benefits from an electrically retractable cover which can be opened and closed remotely via a smartphone app (£1,756.80). Both feature an IP56 weather resistance rating and a T-slot system to fit optional cargo bars, including the Heavy Duty Black Cross Bars (£344.40). These bars can withstand a dynamic load of 200kg and a static load of 360kg thanks to their robust aluminium construction. Access to items in the load bed can be made easier with the DragMat. Priced from £244.15, this easily slides in and out of the bed thanks to ergonomic handles, and can handle over 100kg of tools, camping equipment or appliances. The DragMat brings an added benefit of extra protection against scuffs and scratches for the load bed. The new accessories add extra versatility to a truck claimed to already deliver class-leading performance. Opened for orders this summer, the Chinese brand's first pickup truck features its plug-in Super Hybrid DMO (Dual Mode Off-road). This is designed to offer the responsiveness and refinement of an electric car, with extra flexibility from its 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, returning up to 80.7mpg and a range of up to 419 miles on a full tank of petrol and a full battery charge. Thanks to 436hp of power on tap, it's capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds, yet its maximum torque of 652Nm offers strong performance for towing too. The launch of the Shark signals a major step in BYD's expanding UK commercial vehicle strategy, building directly on its established expertise as a market leader in electric buses. The brand recently launched its Dolphin Cargo e-Van, delivering a class-leading 265-mile range to the small commercial vehicle market. Priced from £29,358 (excl. VAT), the Chinese brand's first-ever electric van in the UK converts the popular Dolphin hatchback into an electric delivery solution tailored to meet the needs of UK operators and offering 1,093 litres of load space.

Gentari, BYD explore 1.5MW Flash Charging network in Malaysia.

Gentari, BYD explore 1.5MW Flash Charging network in Malaysia. The companies will assess potential sites along major intercity routes. Gentari and BYD have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore deploying the latter's megawatt-level Flash Charging technology in Malaysia. As you may recall, the automaker had previously announced plans to introduce the technology locally back in July, and this latest agreement marks a step towards making that a reality. To recap, BYD's Flash Charging technology can deliver up to 1.5MW of power, potentially providing compatible EVs with approximately 400km of driving range in just five minutes under optimal conditions. The proposed collaboration aims to expand ultra-fast charging infrastructure beyond showrooms, particularly along major intercity routes connecting key population centres. Gentari and BYD to assess potential charging locations. The MoU was signed earlier today in Shenzhen, China by Gentari Group CEO Sushil Purohit and BYD Malaysia Managing Director Jacob Ma. Under the agreement, both companies will identify suitable locations for Flash Charging stations, especially along key intercity corridors. They will also assess power infrastructure requirements, battery energy storage systems (BESS), technical and commercial feasibility, and potential operating models to support future deployment. The collaboration combines Gentari's experience in developing and operating EV charging networks with BYD's battery and high-power charging technology. Both companies will also explore potential collaboration in renewable energy generation and energy storage. In a statement, Purohit said charging speed is only one part of the equation, as drivers also need conveniently located stations backed by reliable power supplies and dependable operations. He also believes that the partnership could help strengthen Malaysia's EV charging ecosystem and support wider adoption. Meanwhile, BYD vice president and general manager of Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, Liu Xueliang, said Malaysia remains an important market for the company. He added that BYD hopes the collaboration will contribute to a faster, more convenient and connected charging experience for local EV users. Rollout timeline yet to be confirmed. For now, the MoU remains at the exploratory stage, and neither company has announced a deployment timeline or confirmed locations for the proposed stations. If the plans materialise, the technology could significantly shorten charging stops for compatible EVs on longer journeys, although actual charging speeds and range gained will depend on vehicle compatibility and operating conditions. How BYD plans to protect fleet resale values.

How BYD plans to protect fleet resale values. Residual values have become a key part of BYD's fleet strategy as the brand works to build confidence among Fleet Managers considering whole-of-life cost rather than simply purchase price. Marcus Walker, National Fleet Sales Manager at BYD Australia and New Zealand, told the Fleet News Group podcast that protecting resale values has been an important focus for the company as its fleet volumes increase. "Residual values is a key strategy pillar of the fleet team and our broader business too," Walker said. For fleets operating vehicles on three, four or five-year replacement cycles, resale performance can materially change the total cost of ownership. A vehicle with an attractive purchase price can become more expensive over its lifecycle if values fall sharply before disposal. For Fleet Managers and Fleet Management Organisations, that means pricing strategy and used-vehicle demand need to be considered alongside running costs, servicing and energy consumption. Avoiding heavy discounting. One part of BYD's approach has been to avoid large discounts on existing models simply to reach a lower price point. Walker said BYD has instead preferred to introduce additional variants where possible. "We will never do heavy discounts on a model to try and put it into a new price bracket," Walker said. He pointed to the introduction of lower-priced variants such as the ATTO 3 Essential as an example of that strategy. Rather than discounting an existing higher-specification model, BYD can introduce another variant aimed at customers with a different budget. Walker said the intention is to avoid undermining the value of vehicles already in the market. "What that does is it keeps the residual value of the previous one, but also brings in another sub model that helps get people into the EV bracket," he said. For Fleet Managers, that approach matters because substantial manufacturer discounting can influence used-vehicle expectations. If new vehicles are routinely sold well below their original positioning, it can place additional pressure on existing vehicles approaching disposal. Using auctions to create market evidence. BYD is also using the used-vehicle market to provide Fleet Management Organisations with more information about actual resale outcomes. Walker said BYD has partnered with Pickles to put vehicles through public auctions, allowing fleet partners to observe what vehicles are achieving in the secondary market. "We have partnered with Pickles Auctions to be able to put our vehicles through public auction," Walker said. He said the process gives Fleet Management Organisations greater visibility of market results and helps provide data that can be used when assessing future residual assumptions. "Our FMOs can see real time and live what our vehicles are going through on the public side," Walker said. That type of information becomes increasingly valuable as more battery electric vehicles enter the used market. While established internal-combustion models may have years of historical disposal data available, newer EVs have a shorter remarketing history. Actual auction results provide another data point for fleets and finance providers trying to understand future values. Early ATTO 3 results provide a benchmark. During the interview, Walker was also asked about early BYD ATTO 3 vehicles reaching the used market after around three years. He said the information provided to BYD indicated a residual of approximately 55 per cent after three years, although he noted that some ex-rental vehicles produced different results. "There were some ex rentals that went through that obviously were a little bit different," Walker said. "If you take those out, it's about the 55% residual after three years was the information we've been given." The figure provides an early reference point rather than a guarantee of future resale performance. Vehicle condition, kilometres travelled, specification, market supply and broader demand can all affect disposal outcomes, while the Australian used-EV market continues to develop. For Fleet Managers, the more useful point may be that BYD is now gathering actual disposal data as its earliest vehicles reach traditional fleet replacement ages. Warranty changes may also support confidence. BYD's move to retrospectively improve warranty coverage for vehicles already sold in Australia could also influence confidence among used-vehicle buyers. Rather than limiting the revised warranty conditions to new customers, the company extended the changes to existing vehicles. Walker said the decision was intended to demonstrate confidence in the product and support existing owners. "We don't want to draw a line in the sand. We want to grow ourselves in as an Australian business, and part of that is really showing trust in the brand," Walker said. He suggested the decision may also encourage repeat purchases, although he acknowledged he had not seen data confirming the effect. From a fleet perspective, transferable warranty coverage and confidence in ongoing manufacturer support can become relevant when vehicles reach the second-hand market. Whole-of-life cost remains the bigger question. As BYD competes for more fleet business, purchase price alone will not determine whether its vehicles become established within major fleet replacement programs. Fleet Managers will increasingly be looking at the full lifecycle: acquisition cost, charging or fuel, maintenance, downtime and eventual disposal value. BYD's decision to avoid heavy discounting, introduce additional variants and provide more visibility of auction results shows the company is trying to influence one of the areas that remains difficult to predict for newer EV brands. For fleet buyers, the next few years will provide considerably more evidence. As larger numbers of BYD vehicles complete their first fleet replacement cycles, actual disposal results will begin to show whether those strategies are translating into consistent whole-of-life cost outcomes.

BYD prepares a new Tang for China, featuring a grand, tech-savvy interior.

BYD prepares a new Tang for China, featuring a grand, tech-savvy interior. October 20, 2026 Two screens larger than 30 inches facing the driver and front passenger, in a family SUV measuring 5.05 meters long... On paper, you'd almost mistake it for a high-tech living room rather than a car. Yet this is what BYD is preparing with the next generation of its flagship electric SUV, the Tang, whose homologation sheet has just resurfaced in China and says a lot about the automaker's shift: even bigger, even more powerful, but above all focused on the in-cabin experience. Slated for the Q4 2026 launch on the Chinese market, this BYD Tang EV of the third generation shifts its philosophy according to CarNewsChina. It remains a large 100% electric SUV, now limited to 5 seats while its predecessor offered 6 or 7. And it prioritizes its presentation like never before, with an XXL interior dominated by a dual giant-screen setup and a new interface dubbed the "Giant Screen UI", to the point that the technical sheet showing 691 hp becomes almost secondary. A new BYD Tang EV: longer, more powerful... but only five seats. Documents published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveal the measurements of this large electric SUV. The new Tang EV measures 5,045 mm (about 198.6 in) long, 1,980 mm (about 78.0 in) wide, and 1,740 mm (about 68.5 in) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm (roughly 116.1 in). It gains 145 mm in length and 130 mm in wheelbase compared to the second-generation Tang EV, providing more rear legroom and a stronger road presence. In return, BYD abandons the old model's 6- and 7-seat configurations: the homologation sheet lists only a 5-seat version. Curb weight reaches 2,520 kg (about 5,554 lb), with a maximum gross vehicle weight rating of 2,975 kg (roughly 6,552 lb). In the lineup, the true "7-seat" role now falls to the Da Tang EV, launched in mid-2026 in China, at 5,263 mm long, with three rows and pricing from around 239,900 yuan (about €33,000). BYD has not yet detailed the price positioning of this new Tang EV relative to its larger sibling: no specifics are given yet. XXL interior, giant dual screens and a tech arsenal for the BYD Tang EV. If the bodywork moves forward in small increments, it's the interior that marks a real break. The first official images show a very horizontal cockpit, dominated by two monumental panels: a panoramic display of about 35.4 inches at the base of the windshield and a central screen of about 30 inches, stretched across most of the dashboard. BYD adds its new modular Giant Screen UI, designed as a giant tablet where you can resize and organize windows (navigation, music, climate control, vehicle info) almost on a custom basis. A virtual assistant avatar, named Xiao Mianbao, responds to voice commands, enhancing the "connected living room" vibe even further. The ambiance clearly targets "premium accessible": matte leather upholstery, new hues Dune Beige and Amber Brown, an expansive glass roof with ambient lighting sweeping the full width of the dashboard and into the door panels. In the rear, BYD emphasizes a second row with a backrest recline up to 130 degrees, taking advantage of the longer wheelbase and the absence of a third row to offer a true travel seat for passengers. Under the surface, the specs match the ambition, with a two-motor version announced at 515 kW (about 691 hp combined) and a top speed of 250 km/h (roughly 155 mph), a significant jump over the old Tang EV's all-wheel drive. In terms of energy, the third-generation Tang EV relies on a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD's FinDreams family, using the company's own Blade Battery 2.0 technology. The range lineup should offer capacities of 88.7 and 105.8 kWh, paired with a range up to 850 km (CLTC Chinese cycle). BYD also touts a "Flash Charging" feature capable of taking the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes under optimal conditions. The homologation documents, however, do not specify the exact capacity and range that would be associated with the 515 kW two-motor version: at this stage, no reliable figures are given on that point. The chassis doesn't stop at the basics either. The new BYD Tang EV can be equipped with the air-spring suspension DiSus-A, capable of adjusting height and stiffness in real time, with road preview to smooth out irregularities. On the driver-assistance front, the images show a roof-integrated LiDAR and cameras tucked into the front fenders, paired with the DiPilot 300 package, known in its market as "God's Eye B." The detailed list of features and whether this gear is standard or optional remains to be confirmed for this variant. As for a potential Europe-wide rollout, BYD has not weighed in yet, leaving this spectacular rolling lounge initially confined to the Chinese market.
