  • A strong understanding of reliability engineering principles, including packaging-related failure mechanisms, and experience with relevant testing standards such as Telcordia.
  • Experience with computer-aided design tools for mechanical design and packaging layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop robust, high-yield processes for active and passive optical interfaces to photonic integrated circuits.
  • Select appropriate materials and control critical parameters to achieve stable and reliable fiber coupling.
  • Collaborate with integrated circuit and mechanical design teams to define and create structures that minimize stress, ensure thermal stability, and enhance package reliability.
  • Serve as the key technical interface with contract manufacturing partners, coordinating process design, implementation, and characterization to support transition from development to high-volume production.
  • Define and manage critical process controls, alignment tolerances, and metrology methods to ensure consistent, high-performance manufacturing output.
  • Analyze assembly and packaging yield data to drive continuous process improvement.
  • Define and implement test methodologies to characterize packaged-device reliability under environmental and mechanical stresses.
  • Analyze reliability data to identify potential failure modes and work with design teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Apply knowledge of thermal, modal, and stress/strain principles to predict and mitigate packaging-related reliability risks.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with various waveguide technologies and their impact on packaging design.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes and their constraints on packaging.
  • Experience with finite element analysis software for stress, thermal, or modal simulations.

About the Company

nEye

Programmable optical switches for data centers

nEye Systems designs programmable photonic integrated circuits (PICs) that implement high-radix optical circuit switching on a silicon chip. Their main product is a programmable optical switch built on silicon photonics, enabling high-capacity, low-power data paths for AI, ML, and other data-intensive workloads. The system uses a PIC-based switch fabric that can be configured to route optical signals through many channels, reducing electrical power needs and easing network scaling in data centers. Compared with competitors, nEye focuses on integrating high-radix, programmable optical switching directly on silicon wafers to deliver scalable, energy-efficient networking for AI infrastructure, leveraging MEMS photonics and silicon photonics techniques. The company aims to make data center networks more power-efficient and scalable to meet rising demands from AI and ML workloads.
