Busuu launches AI-powered coaching to combat second-language anxiety holding back 90% of professionals

Busuu, a Chegg service with over 120 million users, has launched an AI and human coaching platform to help professionals communicate confidently in second languages at work. The launch accompanies research showing that "second-language anxiety" prevents employees from contributing fully in workplace settings. A survey of more than 1,000 workplace learners across 64 countries found that 90% prepare before high-stakes conversations, yet only 24% use language-learning apps. More than half (55%) simplify their contributions when speaking a second language, whilst 25% stay silent despite having valuable input. The new platform combines personalised learning, AI coaching, and human tutoring with workplace skills courses covering presentations, negotiations, and client conversations. It aims to help learners perform under pressure rather than simply complete courses. The experience is currently in pilot and will be available from late October.

EdTech news: AI, investment, and global learning trends.

EdTech news: AI, investment, and global learning trends. September 26, 2026 by HMGodoy Introduction: the edtech landscape in flux. Sponsored: Every click leaves a trail. PureVPN shields your data from hackers, hides your location, and keeps your browsing private - especially on public Wi-Fi. In a world where your information is constantly exposed, a VPN puts control back in your hands. Welcome to its latest news digest, where Edu2k compile and analyze the most relevant recent edtech stories from around the globe. In a sector as dynamic as education technology, staying informed isn't just nice - it's necessary. This post dives into four key themes shaping the future of learning: investment and market moves, AI's growing role, global initiatives and equity, and the strategies driving institutional growth. Edu2k has sifted through the noise to bring you insights that matter, whether you're an educator, investor, or lifelong learner. So, grab a coffee, and let's explore what's new and what's next. Investment and market moves: funding fuels innovation. Money talks, and in edtech, it's speaking volumes. This week, Thompson Street Capital Partners announced a growth investment in WeVideo, a cloud-based video creation platform used in classrooms worldwide. This move signals continued confidence in tools that empower student creativity and digital storytelling. Meanwhile, Coursera and Chegg are locked in a battle for investor attention, as analysts debate which stock is the better buy. Coursera's focus on degrees and credentials contrasts with Chegg's study help and tutoring services, highlighting a broader question: in a post-pandemic world, where is the smart money going? Not to be outdone, Docebo, a Canadian learning platform, is making waves with its AI-powered learning software. As companies look to upskill employees and schools seek personalized learning, Docebo's growth potential is under the microscope. These investments and market movements underscore a simple truth: despite economic uncertainties, the appetite for innovative education solutions remains robust. But it's not just about the money - it's about the impact these platforms can have on learners. As these companies scale, will they stay true to their educational missions? That's the billion-dollar question. AI in education: from hype to hallway. Artificial intelligence is no longer a buzzword - it's in the classroom, the boardroom, and the homework help chat. A recent report by MarketsandMarkets projects significant growth in the AI in education market across the Middle East, with countries investing heavily in smart learning environments. But AI's reach isn't limited to wealthy regions. In South Bend, Indiana, WSBT reports that a local school district is teaching students of all ages about AI, from basic concepts to ethical considerations. This is crucial: as AI becomes ubiquitous, digital literacy must include understanding how algorithms work and how they shape its lives. Meanwhile, Docebo's AI-powered learning software is gaining traction, offering personalized learning paths and predictive analytics. But as Edu2k embrace AI, Edu2k must also ask hard questions about data privacy, bias, and the human touch in teaching. The technology is only as good as the pedagogy behind it. So, while Edu2k marvel at chatbots and adaptive systems, let's not forget that the best edtech amplifies teachers, not replaces them. The coming years will test whether Edu2k can integrate AI thoughtfully and equitably - or whether Edu2k'll deepen existing divides. Global education and equity: local solutions, worldwide impact. Education is a global endeavor, and some of the most innovative work is happening in unexpected places. Take Bogotá, Colombia, where a points system to improve schools is showing promise. According to the Inter-American Development Bank, this approach - which incentivizes teacher performance and school improvement - could inspire similar reforms across Latin America. It's a reminder that context matters: solutions must be tailored to local cultures and challenges. On a different note, National Geographic's free online education program is bringing the spirit of exploration to learners worldwide. By making high-quality resources accessible to anyone with an internet connection, they're democratizing knowledge and sparking curiosity. And in the realm of science education, the National Center for Science Education has released its 2025 annual report, highlighting ongoing efforts to defend the teaching of evolution and climate change. These stories show that while technology can scale solutions, equity requires intentionality. It's not enough to create great tools; Edu2k must ensure they reach those who need them most. From Bogotá to the most remote villages, the quest for quality education is universal - and increasingly collaborative. Institutional growth and strategy: adapting to new realities. Universities and colleges are not sitting still. Rowan University's online programs are driving enrollment growth and expanding access, according to Rowan Today. By investing in digital infrastructure and flexible learning options, Rowan is attracting nontraditional students and meeting workforce demands. This trend is mirrored globally, as institutions recognize that online education is not a temporary fix but a permanent fixture. The key is quality: simply moving courses online doesn't guarantee success. Rowan's approach includes robust support services and interactive technologies, which likely contribute to their positive outcomes. Meanwhile, the NCSE's report also underscores the importance of advocacy and education policy in shaping what students learn. Institutional growth isn't just about numbers - it's about mission. As schools and universities navigate changing demographics and technological shifts, those that stay true to their core values while embracing innovation will thrive. The stories above illustrate that growth can be both strategic and principled, but it requires leadership and vision. Conclusion: what this means for the future. As Edu2k wrap up this digest, several threads emerge. First, investment in edtech is maturing, with a focus on tools that enhance creativity, personalization, and access. Second, AI is moving from novelty to necessity, but ethical implementation is paramount. Third, global initiatives show that innovation can come from anywhere, and equity must be at the heart of scaling. Finally, institutions are evolving, blending online and offline to serve diverse learners. The common denominator? A commitment to improving learning outcomes. Whether you're a teacher, administrator, investor, or student, these stories offer lessons and inspiration. So, save this post for future reference and share it with other educators. The conversation is just beginning, and Edu2k is all part of it. Consumer subscription stocks Q2 2026 scorecard: Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) lags as roku (NASDAQ: ROKU) and duolingo (NASDAQ: DUOL) surge.

Consumer subscription stocks Q2 2026 scorecard: Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) lags as roku (NASDAQ: ROKU) and duolingo (NASDAQ: DUOL) surge. Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX), the pioneering streaming platform launched by Reed Hastings as a DVD mail rental service before its famous 2007 pivot, posted the weakest full-year guidance update among consumer subscription peers. Netflix reported Q2 revenues of $12.56 billion, up 13.4% year on year, landing in line with analyst expectations but falling short on forward guidance metrics. EPS guidance for the next quarter missed analyst expectations, while full-year revenue guidance only met consensus, marking a softer overall quarter for the streaming giant. Despite the underwhelming outlook, Netflix shares have climbed 7.7% since the earnings report, with the stock currently trading at $80.09. The broader consumer subscription group of seven tracked stocks delivered mixed Q2 results, with revenues collectively beating analyst consensus estimates by 1.6% while next quarter's revenue guidance came in 2.4% below expectations. Across the group, share prices have declined an average of 2.6% following the latest round of earnings releases, reflecting cautious investor sentiment toward the sector. Roku (NASDAQ: ROKU), whose name means "six" in Japanese reflecting that it was the founder's sixth company, stood out as the strongest performer of the quarter with revenues of $1.35 billion, up 21.9% year on year. Roku's result beat analyst expectations by 4.4%, and the company delivered an impressive beat of analyst EBITDA estimates alongside solid growth in requests, sending its stock up 4.5% to $156.78. Duolingo (NASDAQ: DUOL), the language-learning app founded by a Carnegie Mellon computer science professor and his Ph.D. student, also had a strong quarter, reporting revenues of $298.5 million, up 18.3% year on year and beating expectations by 0.9%. Duolingo produced an impressive beat of analyst EBITDA estimates and full-year EBITDA guidance that exceeded expectations, pushing shares up 8.8% to $147.18 since reporting. Bumble (NASDAQ: BMBL), the dating app built with women at the center and started by Tinder co-founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, reported revenues of $210.5 million, down 15.2% year on year, with next quarter's revenue guidance missing analyst expectations significantly. Bumble shares have fallen 7.6% since the results were published, with the stock now trading at $2.81, reflecting investor concern over declining buyer numbers and weak guidance. Chegg (NYSE: CHGG), which started as a physical textbook rental service before becoming a digital academic assistance platform, reported revenues of $51.85 million, down 50.7% year on year, though the print beat analyst expectations by 4.8%. Chegg logged the weakest revenue growth and guidance performance in the group, with both next-quarter revenue and EBITDA guidance missing analyst expectations significantly, sending the stock down 25% to $0.77. Looking beyond individual company results, the broader market backdrop has shifted considerably, with investors navigating a succession of dominant risks that have repeatedly reshaped sector leadership over the past year. Artificial intelligence emerged as the market's primary uncertainty in late 2025 and early 2026, with investors questioning whether AI would erode software pricing power and weaken competitive moats across the technology landscape. By spring 2026, geopolitical tensions moved to center stage as the U.S. conflict with Iran briefly dominated market narratives, raising concerns about oil prices, inflation, and global economic growth. As energy markets remained orderly and fears of a prolonged supply disruption faded, investor attention rotated back to company fundamentals, setting the stage for Q2 earnings results to drive individual stock performance across sectors.
