Over 100 jobs to go as Daktronics confirms Ennistymon plant closure.

Over 100 jobs to go as Daktronics confirms Ennistymon plant closure. The company confirmed at the start of September that it was entering a collective redundancy consultation with jobs at risk. 5.42pm, 14 Oct 2026 US HEADQUARTERED ELECTRONIC display system firm, Daktronics has announced the closure of its manufacturing facility in Ennistymon in north Clare with the loss of over 100 jobs. In an announcement on Wednesday, Daktronics stated that the company will begin to exit its manufacturing operations here with the closure of its Ennistymon plant anticipated to be substantially complete by mid-fiscal 2028. The move to shut down the Ennistymon facility follows Daktronics' decision to exit from the highly customized portion of its International Transportation business, which serves rail, bus and roadway customers outside of North America. The company stated that the action "is intended to reduce fixed costs with a low or negative return outlook and improve manufacturing utilisation across the company's global manufacturing network". President and chief executive of Daktronics, Ramesh Jayaraman, stated that "exiting Ireland and aligning our manufacturing capacity will help us manage factory utilisation across the network more effectively, improve workforce productivity, set the stage for further automation, and streamline procurement initiatives." He added: "We are taking these steps to meet the evolving needs of our customers." Vice President for International Markets at Daktronics Judd Guthmiller said that "it is with deep regret that we make today's announcement". Guthmiller stated that "this has been a very difficult decision and has not been taken lightly, but market realities have made it unavoidable." He said: "It does not diminish the enormous contribution our Irish colleagues have made to the company and to our customers, and our focus now is on supporting the team through the closure process in the best way possible." Today's announcement followed the company confirming at the start of September that it was entering a collective redundancy consultation after it informed its employees that their positions were at risk. In a statement today, the company stated the Ireland phased-exit is expected to result in $13.5 million (€12.07 million) of cumulative pre-tax charges, including employee-related costs, facility wind-down and equipment-transfer costs, and potential asset impairments. The company stated that it expects to recognise approximately $5.3 million (€4.74 million) of related restructuring charges in Q2 of fiscal 2027, with the remaining costs, largely severance, charged in subsequent quarters as incurred through the completion of the phased exit. Daktronics stated that when fully implemented, the Ireland action is expected to generate $7.7 million (€6.88 million) of annualised pre-tax savings which it stated will fully offset the associated implementation costs in less than two years, "while contributing to the Company's broader structural cost reduction and margin improvement objectives". The most recent accounts for Daktronics Ireland Co Ltd show that the company was profitable. The accounts show that for the 12 months to the end of April 2025, the firm recorded a pre-tax profit of €586,003 as revenues decreased by 8.5pc from €17.98 million to €16.44 million. The company at the end of April 2025 employed 116, and staff costs for the year totalled €6.49 million. Daktronics confirms it will cease Ennistymon operations. 14 October 2026 Daktronics has confirmed it's ceasing its operations in Ireland, meaning it will eventually bring its business in Ennistymon to a close. The comnpany has today announced that it is exiting from the highly customized portion of the International Transportation business, which serves rail, bus, and roadway customers outside of North America. - Advertisement - In a statement to Clare FM, Daktronics says it consulted with its Ireland employees on the future viability of the facility and that unfortunately, no sustainable alternative was identified during the consultation process to support the business and continued operations in Ennistymon. Judd Guthmiller, Vice President, International said; "It is with deep regret that we make today's announcement. Learning beyond the classroom: an intern's experience at FTE Global.

Learning beyond the classroom: an intern's experience at FTE Global. Owen Gifford, Daktronics Intern, attended FTE Global in Grapevine, Texas, for a firsthand look at the innovations shaping the future of air travel and passenger experience. Attending the Future Travel Experience (FTE) Global event in Grapevine, Texas, this fall was a unique experience I had while interning at Daktronics. Leaders in airport and airline technology, passenger experience, digital transformation, biometrics, baggage systems, retail, and emerging technologies come together at FTE, which is widely recognized as the aviation industry's premier venue for innovation. Attending the event offered a special chance to learn about the difficulties organizations encounter and to observe how Daktronics solutions contribute to the creation of memorable, meaningful experiences for communities worldwide. Throughout the show, I spent time at the shared booth with Daktronics and Synect, interacting with attendees, answering questions, and observing conversations between its team and customers. These encounters allowed me to see firsthand how Daktronics establishes connections and works with businesses to fulfill their digital display and communication requirements. Working alongside fellow intern Zack Carter was another highlight of the trip, as the opportunity to discuss ideas, support one another and learn together made the experience even more enjoyable. Learning about the various projects occurring throughout the aviation sector was one of the most beneficial elements of attending FTE. It was fascinating to observe how its chip-on-board solution was used to enhance wayfinding and communication. Additionally, I was able to broaden my network, meet individuals from a variety of backgrounds and learn more about the various career options related to Daktronics' industries and clients. All things considered, going to FTE Global was a worthwhile experience. It gave me first-hand experience representing Daktronics at a significant international event, enhanced my professional abilities and expanded my industry knowledge. I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to using what I have learned during the rest of my internship. Owen Gifford, Daktronics Intern

Navigating outdoor digital sign suppliers: what every sign shop should look for.

Navigating outdoor digital sign suppliers: what every sign shop should look for. Post Views: 18 Finding the right sign supplier to supply your sign shop and your end customers is always an ongoing challenge in today's competitive market. With so many choices available, ranging from massive corporate manufacturers to agile, specialized businesses providing superior outdoor LED solutions it is essential to carefully evaluate how a manufacturer operates before committing your business to them. Historically, legacy industry giants like Watchfire Signs and Daktronics have been recognized as default leaders in outdoor LED signs. While big sign names often focus heavily on direct corporate accounts and mega-stadium projects, Watchfire Signs remains a frequent choice for independent regional sign shops. Today, an increasing number of sign shop owners are realizing that a rigid corporate mentality may exist across both of these industry giants. High minimum order thresholds, delayed support response times, and competing sales channels have led many shop owners to search for a Watchfire Signs alternative and a manufacturer that functions as a business partner. If you are currently evaluating your options for digital signage, here are the 5 key points to look for in a wholesale outdoor LED sign provider. 1. Are they exclusively wholesale? Your supplier should be your biggest ally, not your hidden competitor. Partnering with an exclusively wholesale LED sign supplier ensures that the manufacturer is 100% dedicated to supporting sign shops and will never attempt to bypass you to sell directly to your local end clients. When a manufacturer operates a direct sales arm alongside a wholesale program, your hard-earned customer relationships are always at risk. A strictly wholesale commitment means every lead, inquiry, and margin protection measure is built around growing your business. 2. Are their products built on american measurements? Much of the global digital display market relies on metric cabinet dimensions, which creates significant friction during fabrication and installation in North America. Look for a supplier that designs and manufactures modules in convenient 1 ft x 1 ft increments. Using the standard imperial system simplifies your design layout, streamlines cabinet framing, and eliminates rounding errors during retrofit installations, allowing your crew to finish jobs faster with fewer field adjustments. 3. Do they provide a spare parts kit? Even with industry-leading build quality and rigorous quality control testing, unexpected incidents happen during transit, handling, or on-site installation. A minor component damage issue shouldn't bring an entire project to a standstill. Look for a supplier that ships a comprehensive spare parts kit containing key components directly with every sign. Having backup components on-site allows your installation team to resolve job-site accidents immediately. You can hand over a fully functioning sign, get the project signed off, and collect final payment right away, rather than leaving your customer waiting for shipped replacement parts. 4. Is lifetime tech support included without hidden costs? Your relationship with an LED display supplier shouldn't end the moment the freight truck leaves their loading dock. Electronic Message Centers (EMCs) represent a long-term capital investment for your end customers, and software or hardware questions will inevitably arise over time. Partner with a manufacturer that provides accessible, U.S.-based technical support for the complete lifespan of the sign. Having expert tech support available when your service technicians are on a bucket truck saves billable hours and reinforces your shop's reputation for reliability. 5. What content management system (CMS) do they offer? Managing an EMC display must be intuitive and hassle-free for your customer, whether they operate a local retail shop, school, or house of worship. Evaluate the software ecosystem carefully and look for a cloud-based routing content management system that offers two non-negotiable benefits: * Zero Recurring Subscription Fees: Software access should be included for the life of the sign, freeing your customer from monthly recurring bills that erode the sign's long-term ROI. * Universal and Secure Accessibility: The platform must be securely accessible from any web browser, smartphone, or tablet anywhere in the world, allowing end-users to schedule dynamic content updates on the fly with options for local direct connect or in-network wifi options. Bonus factor: the "Peace of Mind" Insurance Pledge. Because bad things can happen to even the best-built signs, ask prospective manufacturers if they back their hardware with a Peace of Mind Pledge. If your customer's sign suffers physical damage from a severe storm, vehicle collision, or act of God, insurance deductibles often present a major out-of-pocket obstacle. High deductibles cause clients to hesitate on immediate repairs or force them to reopen the job for competing bids. A manufacturer offering a Peace of Mind Pledge will cover your customer's insurance deductible up to specified limits. This eliminates out-of-pocket expenses for your end client while guaranteeing that your sign shop gets the contract to build and install the replacement sign. It turns an unexpected event into an effortless, win-win resolution. Partnering with the right supplier to grow your business. Choosing the right partner for outdoor digital signs goes far beyond basic hardware specifications and pixel pitches. The ideal provider operates alongside your business throughout the entire selling process, providing high-converting EMC selling tools, site planning support, dynamic project management, and competitive wholesale pricing. By pairing high-performance hardware with true partner support, you can out-maneuver rigid corporate sign lords, delight your end clients, and build a more profitable sign shop. In summary, finding the right wholesale LED sign provider is one of the most consequential decisions your shop will make this year. Your business matters, and having a supplier that protects your margins ensures long-term success. Disclaimer: Watchfire(R) and Watchfire Ignite(R) are registered trademarks of Watchfire Signs, LLC.
