About the Job

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Product Design, or a related field of study.
  • Available to join the internship for 6–12 months full-time.
  • At the end of the internship, must return to school to continue education, or the internship must be the last requirement to graduate.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication in both English and Chinese.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, engineering, prototyping, and validation activities in laboratory and factory environments.
  • Create 3D models and 2D drawings, and perform tolerance analysis to ensure precise fit and assembly.
  • Conduct engineering data collection and use statistical or AI-driven tools to analyze results and inform design decisions.
  • Optimize component designs for high-volume manufacturing, applying design for manufacturing and design for assembly principles for injection molding, sheet metal, and CNC machining.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support factory builds and perform root-cause and failure analysis; travel may be up to 20%.
  • Communicate technical specifications, test results, and design updates clearly to internal teams and external vendors.
  • Create 3D and 2D mechanical designs of components, mechanisms, and electro-mechanical integrations, including batteries, antennas, printed circuit boards, and interconnections.
  • Help generate concepts, build prototypes, and perform mechanical, tolerance, and failure analysis to evaluate designs.
  • Partner with Hardware, Program Management, Industrial Design, Operations, Manufacturing, and Reliability teams to ensure designs meet aesthetic and functional goals.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency in 3D computer-aided design software; Siemens NX is preferred.
  • Hands-on prototyping experience using 3D printers, CNC mills, lathes, or other fabrication methods.
  • Knowledge of materials science fundamentals covering plastics, metals, adhesives, glass, ceramics, composites, and coatings.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and tolerancing, including design for manufacturing, design for assembly, statistical tolerance analysis, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Understanding of engineering analysis, including finite element analysis theory, general mechanical principles, and statistical tools.
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical integration, specifically packaging components such as batteries and wireless antennas into mechanical enclosures.
