Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in Python, Go, or Java, with strong TypeScript and Node.js skills for full-stack or service-layer delivery.
- Hands-on AWS or Azure architecture experience; mastery of Terraform, Kubernetes (EKS or AKS), and container orchestration.
- Deep knowledge of SQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, MongoDB, and DynamoDB, including data modeling for high-availability systems.
- Proven experience constructing CI/CD pipelines and using TDD, BDD, microservices architecture, and GitLab or GitHub.
- Solid understanding of Secure by Design principles, OAuth2/OIDC, and building for UK Sovereign Cloud or disconnected environments; practical application of BDD/TDD and a security-first software development lifecycle approach.
- Must hold eDV security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor small, high-velocity engineering teams of 4–8 people, fostering technical excellence, psychological safety, and rapid delivery using Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.
- Serve as the Technical Authority for client projects, bridging high-level strategy and low-level implementation, and design resilient, scalable architectures for high-side or disconnected environments.
- Lead implementation of the foundational technology for AI, including ETL/ELT data pipelines, vector databases for RAG, and deployment of LLMs and ML models within secure infrastructure.
- Advise UK Government stakeholders on policy and assurance, including JSP 440 and IS1&2, and deliver Secure by Design software.
- Develop technical roadmaps with client engineering communities, prioritizing interoperability, data sovereignty, and migration from legacy systems to modern cloud-native architectures using AWS or Azure.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with vector databases such as Milvus, Weaviate, or Pinecone for high-dimensional data retrieval and RAG architectures.
- Familiarity with Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster for data orchestration and model-training pipelines.
- Advanced Elasticsearch or OpenSearch for semantic search and large-scale indexing.
- Exposure to LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Hugging Face libraries for integrating large language models into production applications.
- Understanding of model lifecycle management, including deployment, monitoring, and versioning using MLflow or Kubeflow.
- Proven experience in the UK National Security community, such as the Ministry of Defence, Home Office, or intelligence agencies; familiarity with the Service Manual, Government Digital Service standards, and Cross-Domain Solutions.
- A track record of developing junior and mid-level engineers into future technical leaders.
