About the job

Requirements
  • 12+ years of experience in security, including 5+ years leading security organizations, ideally through hypergrowth and a major fundraise or IPO-track diligence process.
  • Deep technical credibility, including the ability to whiteboard an agent identity model, discuss AI gateway architecture, and review a detection engineering backlog.
  • Current conviction and knowledge of AI security, including prompt injection, agentic access, model-mediated data exfiltration, and large language model red teaming.
  • Experience building new functions from zero headcount into working teams with effective controls.
  • Fluency in cloud-native security, including AWS identity, cloud security posture management, endpoint detection and response, security information and event management operations, and modern application security tooling in continuous integration.
  • Comfort owning corporate IT, including identity platforms, endpoint fleets, and software-as-a-service governance.
  • Ability to brief a board, complete enterprise customer security reviews, and present leadership with alternatives when raising security concerns.
  • Bias toward enablement, making safe practices efficient and removing low-value controls while adding high-value controls.
Responsibilities
  • Own security strategy, engineering, operations, and the company's trust posture.
  • Stand up the AI security function, including the internal AI gateway with controlled egress, authentication, per-tool authorization, centralized prompt and output logging, inline data loss prevention, and model allowlisting to discover and absorb shadow AI.
  • Define agent identity in Amazon Web Services so agents receive scoped roles and short-lived credentials rather than inherited human permissions.
  • Harden customer-facing AI surfaces with authenticated Model Context Protocol, gateway-enforced per-tool authorization, a prompt-abuse detection pipeline feeding the security information and event management system, sensitive-field output filtering, and a red-team scenario suite running as continuous-integration regression tests.
  • Lead application security, security architecture, security operations, cloud security, and the corporate IT function across the current team and approved requisitions.
  • Drive secure-by-design intake, secrets refactoring, organization-wide role-based access control mapped to Okta groups, detection engineering on the next-generation security information and event management system, automated response playbooks, and identity-log onboarding across Okta, Salesforce, and Amazon Web Services.
  • Harden business operations through Salesforce least privilege, contractor and business-process-outsourcing access via virtual desktop infrastructure on managed hardware, insider-threat monitoring, and production-data hygiene.
  • Own the security narrative for fundraising diligence and enterprise sales, lead customer security reviews, and build trust artifacts that shorten enterprise sales cycles.
  • Own the technical controls behind SOC 2 and PCI in partnership with legal, which owns compliance, privacy, and audit programs.
  • Own identity, endpoint fleet, and software-as-a-service administration, including joiner-mover-leaver automation, entitlement hygiene, and a managed environment suitable for agents as system users.
  • Hire and deliver an AI security team, launch the internal AI gateway, enforce the agent identity model before broad agent rollout, and operate a prompt-abuse pipeline in production.
  • Advance security diligence and customer-facing trust practices to accelerate enterprise deals.
  • Move access management toward role-driven access through role-based access control, secrets remediation, and joiner-mover-leaver automation.
  • Sustain SOC 2 and PCI technical controls and establish an operating boundary with legal's compliance and privacy function.
  • Build a security organization that collaborates effectively with engineering and applies blocking controls only when justified and actionable.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience securing customer-facing AI or large language model products at scale.
  • Background in payments, travel, or another PCI-regulated, high-transaction-volume environment.
  • Experience partnering with legal on privacy programs and regulatory frameworks, including GDPR, CCPA, or emerging AI regulation.

Gamma's Grant Lee, Engine's Elia Wallen, and GV's Crystal Huang on landing your first 1,000 customers

At TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, Gamma CEO Grant Lee, Engine CEO Elia Wallen, and GV general partner Crystal Huang will discuss strategies for acquiring the first 1,000 customers. They'll cover community building, product-led growth, founder-led sales, and word of mouth tactics for early-stage startups. Lee co-founded Gamma, an AI-powered visual communication platform approaching 100 million users that reached $100 million in annual recurring revenue in 2025. Wallen bootstrapped Travelers Haven in 2008 before shifting to Engine, which now serves over 30,000 businesses and one million travellers. In July, Engine acquired Options Travel and TempoTrip. Huang, who focuses on SaaS, infrastructure, and AI investments at GV, will provide the investor perspective on early customer traction.

Navan partners with Engine to expand travel booking options and boost platform loyalty

Navan has partnered with Engine, a travel and spend technology provider, to expand booking options for its users. The collaboration will integrate Engine's payment and fintech solutions into Navan's platform, streamlining bookings, adjustments and cancellations. Initial offerings will launch this month, with additional features following in subsequent months. The partnership aims to enhance platform stickiness by providing greater flexibility and control over travel plans. The move follows Navan's acquisition of AI-driven meetings platform BoomPop. In the second quarter, Navan reported 45% growth in gross bookings, exceeding $3 billion, whilst revenue reached $233 million, up 35% year-over-year. However, the integration introduces technical risks, including potential disruptions during rollout. Relying on external infrastructure also creates dependency risks if Engine faces operational or financial challenges.

Engine acquires Options Travel to build AI-native booking tool for travel management companies

Engine has acquired Options Travel, a corporate travel management company with over 30 years of experience. Options Travel will continue operating independently under its current leadership, with all employees joining Engine. The acquisition follows nine months of collaboration, during which Engine identified significant technology gaps in the travel management company sector. Engine is now developing an AI-native online booking tool for the industry, featuring booking, payments, reporting, and customer management in a single dashboard. The new platform reduces booking times to 2.5 minutes, compared to the industry average of nearly 15 minutes. According to the Global Business Travel Association, nearly a third of corporate travel buyers are reconsidering their travel management company this year, primarily due to outdated technology rather than service quality. Engine will demonstrate the new platform at the GBTA Convention in Chicago from 3–5 August.
