About the Job

Requirements

  • A degree in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronic, or fluidic engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing and testing high-performance mechanical systems, ideally structures and/or mechanisms.
  • Hands-on fluency with test instrumentation, including load cells, accelerometers, strain gauges, and pressure transducers, from setup through interpretation of static and dynamic data.
  • Strong analytical instincts to assess issues from fasteners through the full vehicle.
  • Experience delivering work efficiently, effectively, and to a high quality standard.
  • Tenacity, a can-do attitude, and sound judgement under time pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and refine systems including tanks, interstages, fairings, separation and landing mechanisms, aerodynamic controls, fluid systems, and thermal protection.
  • Iterate in computer-aided design with analysis and manufacturing engineers, release drawings for production, and test hardware until it is flight-ready.
  • Own hardware across structures, mechanisms, fluids, and thermal systems, including propellant tanks, interstages, composite fairings, stage separation systems, pressurant systems, propellant management, ignition systems, reaction control systems, thermal protection systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
  • Work with analysis and manufacturing engineers to find solutions that meet analytical, manufacturing, and schedule constraints.
  • Analyze dynamic data, refine designs on the production floor with technicians, and test concepts or flight-ready designs in the development lab.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in composites structures, large-scale structural testing, cryogenic systems, pressurised systems, or mechanical moving assemblies.
  • Experience with computer-aided design software such as NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA; NX is preferred.
  • Experience using product lifecycle management software such as Teamcenter, Windchill, or similar; Teamcenter is preferred.
  • Experience using National Instruments data acquisition systems.
  • Programming in C+, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or another programming language.
  • Experience writing or reviewing safety risk assessments.

About the Company

Rocket Lab Corporation

Builds rockets, satellites and space components

Rocket Lab builds and launches rockets, designs satellites and sells spacecraft components for commercial operators, governments and defense customers. Its Electron rocket carries small satellites on dedicated missions, while its Space Systems business supplies complete spacecraft and the hardware and software needed to operate them. Customers pay for launch services, satellite development, component sales and mission support, giving the group business beyond sending its own rockets into space. The company is developing Neutron, a larger reusable rocket intended for constellation deployment and other heavier missions. Rocket Lab's operating business began in 2006 and the group is headquartered in Long Beach, California.
