Nvidia wants to control AI agents, and returns $150 billion to shareholders.

Nvidia wants to control AI agents, and returns $150 billion to shareholders. 21 October 2026 00:05 AMD buys World Labs for $8.2 billion | Anthropic reserves $11.6 billion in Akamai's cloud. Nvidia launched a platform to increase the security of artificial intelligence agents. The system allows defining limits on what these programs can do and monitoring their behavior. The platform includes OpenShell, which controls the agents' capabilities, and Sentry, which monitors their activity. Nvidia says these tools could have prevented the recent incident with OpenAI agents at Hugging Face. Part of the software is open source. The company is working with Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, and Anthropic to integrate the technology. Nvidia also announced a plan to buy back up to $150 billion in shares - the largest ever announced by an American company. AMD buys World Labs for 8.2 billion AMD will buy World Labs, the artificial intelligence company founded by Fei-Fei Li, for $8.2 billion. The deal will be paid in shares and should be completed by the end of this year. World Labs develops models capable of understanding and creating representations of the physical world. The technology can generate 3D environments from text, images, or video - and has applications in robotics. Fei-Fei Li will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist. The World Labs team will continue to develop the models. The point is strategic. AMD is not just buying software. It is buying a way for artificial intelligence to perceive real space, precisely where the next wave of robots and simulations will be decided. Anthropic reserves $11.6 billion in Akamai's cloud Anthropic will spend $11.6 billion on Akamai cloud services over seven years and, to guarantee the necessary capacity, Akamai expects to invest about $5.5 billion to upgrade its data centers. The agreement increases the computing capacity available for the company's artificial intelligence systems. The contract is mainly linked to the use of CPUs, which are increasingly important for tasks performed by AI agents. The partnership could grow by another $9 billion and reach about $20 billion. As part of the agreement, Anthropic may receive a stake of up to 5% in Akamai. FireMon extends Policy Control plane for Microsegmentation with Akamai Guardicore integration.

FireMon extends Policy Control plane for Microsegmentation with Akamai Guardicore integration. * 3 hrs ago FireMon, the founder of Network Security Policy Management (NSPM) and the control plane for network security policy, today announced an integration with Akamai Guardicore Segmentation that extends FireMon's policy control plane for microsegmentation. Organizations that have already governed firewall policy across their hybrid environment can now bring that same governance, normalization, and audit rigor to Akamai Guardicore segmentation policy as they scale zero trust programs. Akamai research found that while more than 90% of organizations use some form of segmentation, only about 35% have implemented microsegmentation, with network complexity and visibility gaps among the most commonly cited barriers. As organizations add microsegmentation to existing firewall, cloud, and other security controls, policy becomes distributed across multiple enforcement layers. FireMon's integration with Akamai Guardicore Segmentation brings segmentation policy into the same normalized, governed model FireMon applies across firewalls and cloud security groups, giving teams broader context to assess policy, troubleshoot changes, and maintain consistent governance. FireMon doesn't replace Akamai Guardicore Segmentation's enforcement. It governs the policy that sits above and across it, the same way FireMon governs firewall policy without replacing the firewall. For organizations already using FireMon to manage a multi-vendor firewall estate, segmentation policy now runs through the same governed layer instead of a separate console and a separate process. "Zero trust is a policy challenge before it's an enforcement challenge," said Jody Brazil, CEO of FireMon. "Microsegmentation platforms are good at enforcement. But if segmentation policy isn't governed with the same rigor as firewall policy, you end up with strong lateral-movement protection in one place and blind spots everywhere else. This integration closes that gap." The integration brings segmentation policy from Akamai Guardicore Segmentation into FireMon's normalized model alongside every firewall vendor and cloud platform an organization runs. Security teams get one place to check whether segmentation rules match intent, validate changes before they're pushed, and produce audit evidence for a zero trust program instead of reconciling it by hand across consoles. For enterprises operating across data centers, cloud platforms, and distributed networks, access decisions are often enforced across multiple technologies and operational teams. With centralized governance, segmentation initiatives are easier to maintain consistently over time as environments evolve. "Akamai Guardicore Segmentation gives customers precise enforcement for Microsegmentation across hybrid environments," said Misha Yaverbaum, VP Product Management Enterprise Security at Akamai. "Pairing that enforcement with FireMon's policy governance provides joint customers with a single, governed view across all network controls. Together, we make scaling Zero Trust fast, continuous, and frictionless." The announcement reflects a broader industry shift as enterprises move beyond isolated enforcement technologies toward unified policy governance across firewalls, cloud, and segmentation environments. As security architectures become increasingly distributed, organizations are looking for operational models that connect policy intent, enforcement, and governance across the enterprise. "Microsegmentation is a critical enforcement capability," Brazil said. "But it only holds up if policy intent stays aligned as infrastructure keeps changing. That's the governance layer we're extending here." About FireMon FireMon is the founder of Network Security Policy Management (NSPM). Policy is the control plane for network security, and FireMon gives organizations one governed layer above their firewalls, cloud security groups, and segmentation platforms instead of relying on each device's own console. FireMon customers use that layer to reduce policy risk before it becomes an outage or an attack, prove and maintain compliance continuously instead of once a quarter, and move faster on policy changes without trading away security. Global enterprises, government agencies, and service providers rely on FireMon to reduce measurable risk and maintain continuous compliance across hybrid, multi-vendor environments. Perplexity open-sources SPACE, its agent sandbox.

Perplexity open-sources SPACE, its agent sandbox. The Apache 2.0 project runs code in Firecracker microVMs; Perplexity's tests found different results for host isolation and network controls. October 16, 2026 Key points * 01 SPACE runs code in isolated Firecracker microVMs and uses an HTTP and server-sent events interface. * 02 Perplexity reported zero VM-to-host escapes in 108 runs and 11 network-policy bypasses in 54 partial-access runs. * 03 The company says it changed gateway defenses and observed no successful callback retrieval in follow-up testing. * 04 Perplexity says Akamai launched SPACE on its cloud platform, Crusoe is adding it to Managed AI Services, and CoreWeave published evaluation guidance. Perplexity released SPACE under Apache 2.0. See how its Firecracker sandbox works and what the company's separate isolation and network tests found. Perplexity announced on October 15, 2026, that it was open-sourcing SPACE, the sandbox platform behind its Computer agent. The project runs code in isolated Firecracker microVMs and exposes an HTTP API; Perplexity's security report separately records zero VM-to-host escapes and successful network-policy bypasses under partial access conditions. The repository identifies the project's license as Apache License 2.0 (announcement; SPACE repository). What developers get from SPACE. SPACE stands for Sandboxed Platform for Agentic Code Execution. Its repository describes a system for creating Linux environments, running commands and managing sandbox lifecycles. It is implemented in Rust, but developers interact with it through HTTP and server-sent events rather than embedding a Rust library. A template provides the starting environment; each sandbox instance has its own virtual machine and writable filesystem. Lifecycle changes run asynchronously and return an operation ID to poll. Command output travels over a separate data-plane connection with a session-scoped attachment token. The repository also links installation, architecture, API, troubleshooting and E2B compatibility documentation (repository). Perplexity says platform-held credentials and network access are managed outside the untrusted sandbox, so an agent can connect to authorized services without keeping those credentials in its workspace (announcement). What Perplexity's security tests found. Perplexity's security report, dated September 23, 2026, separates attempts to escape a virtual machine to its host from attempts to bypass outbound network rules. The reported results differ by boundary and network condition (security report). | Test boundary or network condition | Reported result | Runs | | VM-to-host escape | No successful escapes | 0 of 108 | | Network bypass with all outbound access blocked | No successful bypasses | 0 of 54 | | Network bypass with partial access to approved package repositories | 11 successful bypasses; four models succeeded at least once | 11 of 54 | The zero-escape result applies to the VM-to-host tests. It does not describe the separate network-policy tests: with partial access to approved package repositories, four models found a way through the outbound controls in 11 of 54 runs. Perplexity says those bypasses used forged DNS mappings or other services reachable through an IP address shared with an allowed service. Perplexity says it changed its gateway defenses, adding source-address validation and stricter checks for hostname and authority information. In follow-up testing with source access and partial network access, the company reports that no tested model retrieved the callback flag; two scheduled runs ended because of provider or transport errors. Perplexity cautions that bounded tests do not prove perfect security (security report). SPACE in Computer and on cloud platforms. Perplexity says SPACE replaced its commercial sandbox provider in July 2026 and has powered every Computer session since then. The company reports millions of sandbox creations per day and says creation was three to five times faster than with its previous provider in a comparison using the same production traffic (announcement). The announcement gives different roles to three cloud providers: Akamai tested and launched SPACE on its cloud platform; Crusoe is partnering to add it to Managed AI Services; and CoreWeave published setup guidance for developers evaluating SPACE on CKS (announcement). EDP signs agreement with technology company Akamai to supply solar energy in Singapore.

EDP signs agreement with technology company Akamai to supply solar energy in Singapore. Long-term contract covers 27 solar installations with capacity to produce up to 17,000 MWh per year. Agreement accompanies the increase in energy demand associated with artificial intelligence and the expansion of digital infrastructures. EDP has signed a long-term renewable energy power purchase agreement (PPA) with technology company Akamai in Singapore. The agreement covers the output of 27 photovoltaic solar installations, capable of generating up to 17,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity per year, at a time when the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) is increasing the energy needs of digital infrastructures. The installations, located on building rooftops and already in operation, can produce annually the equivalent of a solar plant with 13 megawatts-peak (MWp) of installed capacity. According to the companies, the project will avoid around 5,850 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions per year. The contract duration was not disclosed. This is Akamai's first renewable energy purchase agreement in the Asia-Pacific region, where the company is expanding its cloud computing infrastructure. "Artificial intelligence is accelerating demand for computing capacity, but the conversation cannot focus only on expanding infrastructure. We also have to reflect on the energy needed to support this growth," said Mike Mattera, Akamai's director of corporate sustainability. The agreement is part of Akamai's strategy to achieve 100% renewable energy and net-zero emissions by 2030, joining solar and wind initiatives that the technology company already supports in the United States and Europe. It also contributes to Singapore's Green Plan 2030 goals, which foresees strengthening solar generation, namely by using building rooftops, in a country with limited land availability. For Filipa Ricciardi, EDP APAC director responsible for customers, the partnership reflects "the increasingly relevant role of renewable energy in supporting the energy needs and sustainability goals of technology companies," highlighting the potential of solar generation on rooftops in a highly urbanized territory such as Singapore.
