Meta and EssilorLuxottica are expanding their smart glasses product line to new markets. The companies are offering more than 100 glasses options across Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Meta Glasses brands by year-end. Ray-Ban Meta Audio starts at $349 and ships on 13 October, whilst Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) is available now from $449. Meta Glasses start at $399, with a new Meta Adventurer configuration starting at $249. The expansion builds on Meta's partnership with EssilorLuxottica, which handles eyewear design, manufacturing, and distribution. Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses have sold 2 million pairs, demonstrating early commercial traction for the product line. Meta has detailed privacy settings for the glasses, including recording indicators, data collection, and user controls.
Meta has taken the lead in AI-enabled smart glasses, selling 7 million pairs in 2025 through its partnership with EssilorLuxottica. The company's Ray-Ban smart glasses range from £349 for audio-only models to £799 for display-enabled versions with AI capabilities. Meta credits its success to prioritising fashion over technology, keeping glasses under 50 grams whilst adding features like AI assistants and hologram calling. The glasses can execute multistep tasks like managing schedules and scanning emails using Meta's Muse Spark model. However, privacy concerns persist. Meta faces class-action lawsuits over footage sharing with third-party reviewers and users tampering with recording indicator lights. The company has introduced policies to deactivate recording if LEDs are modified. Competitors including Apple, OpenAI, and Snap are developing alternative AI devices, but analysts expect wearables to remain tethered to smartphones for five to ten years due to battery limitations.
Dolby Laboratories and Meta announced an expansion of Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision across Meta's ecosystem of devices and platforms. Meta AI glasses will become the first global consumer device capable of capturing audio in Dolby Atmos, allowing users to record moments and share them on Instagram. The announcement, made at Meta Connect, builds on last year's launch of Dolby Vision on Instagram. Meta's newest VR device, launching next year, will also support both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for immersive experiences including films, shows, sports and concerts. The partnership brings cinema-grade audio and visual technologies to everyday content creation and social sharing across one of the world's largest entertainment and social platforms.
Meta unveiled three new pairs of smart glasses at its Meta Connect conference on Wednesday, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The standout is the $1,299 Meta VR Glasses, launching in spring 2027. The VR Glasses are five times lighter than Meta's Quest 3 headset and feature a 5K display for entertainment, gaming, and work. Computing components are housed in a separate tethered puck to reduce weight. Users navigate via hand gestures or the onboard Muse AI agent. The device is the first IMAX Enhanced-certified VR headset. Meta partnered with Disney+ for streaming access and is bringing Amazon Prime Video and YouTube to the platform. Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming service will also be available. Meta also introduced $349 Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses without cameras and third-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
Meta has unveiled Meta VR Glasses at its Connect conference, marking a fresh attempt at making virtual reality mainstream. The glasses are five times lighter than the Quest 3 and resemble normal glasses rather than bulky headsets. Made from magnesium alloy and powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, the glasses feature micro-OLED panels with a 5K Infinite Display, 37 pixels per degree, and support for Dolby Vision and Atmos audio. A computing puck serving as the battery can be pocketed for portable use. Meta positions the device as the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR product. From November, Disney+ users can stream select Marvel films in 3D with immersive environments and spatial audio. The glasses include Meta AI for voice commands and hand gesture controls. They launch next spring priced at $1,299.99.
