About the job

Requirements
  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 4 years training and shipping production machine learning systems.
  • Have trained or fine-tuned models that reached production and improved a customer-relevant metric.
  • Have expertise in production agent systems, including harnesses, memory, skills, tool use, and sub-agents.
  • Know when and how fine-tuning works, what data it requires, and how to derive that data from raw telemetry.
  • Have statistical fluency sufficient to evaluate whether small metric changes are meaningful or noise.
  • Have deployed models under constraints such as tight latency budgets, limited GPUs, or customer infrastructure, using tools such as vLLM, ONNX, TensorRT, or llama.cpp, or equivalent.
  • Strong Python skills for training and machine learning work, plus TypeScript or Go for production services that serve models.
  • Be able to select a technology stack, document the decision, and defend it over time.
  • Be comfortable making decisions with incomplete data in an ambiguous, early-team environment.
  • Be prepared to prioritize shipping a working early version over extended research or polish.
Responsibilities
  • Run the machine learning pipeline end to end, from data and training through evaluation and release, and make new model releases reliable and routine.
  • Fine-tune and train models for tool selection, routing, retrieval, and agent memory, using methods such as distillation, embeddings, and rerankers.
  • Expand model use cases, beginning with search and recommendation over tools and agent context.
  • Build an evaluation system with offline evaluations against real agent traces, online measurement in production, and head-to-head comparisons with Claude, GPT, and Gemini.
  • Quantize, optimize, and package models for customer VPCs and air-gapped environments, and work with the Runtime team on model serving.
  • Build a feedback loop from production agent traces and tool-call data to improved models while respecting enterprise customer data boundaries.
  • Choose the machine learning stack, write its strategy, and help decide future machine learning hires.
  • Use expertise in modern agent systems, including harnesses, memory, and skills, to identify where models can improve agents and assess approaches early.
  • Use AI to increase personal productivity and reduce the time needed for repeat projects.
  • Own the existing agent recommendation model and its training pipeline, productionize it, and establish the machine learning stack and future patterns.
  • Make build-versus-buy decisions for the machine learning stack.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience shipping machine learning into enterprise on-premises or regulated environments, including financial services, healthcare, or government.
  • Tool-use benchmark or evaluation experience with BFCL, τ-bench, ToolBench, MCP evaluations, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol ecosystem; filing an issue against its specification is an additional plus.
  • Experience building training-data pipelines from production traces with privacy controls.
  • Experience as the first machine learning hire at an organization.
  • Open-source contributions or published work that has been tested and used by other engineers.
  • Experience at an early-stage startup.

What believers are saying

  • April 7, 2026 LangChain integrated Arcade's 7,500-plus tools into LangSmith Fleet.
  • September 10, 2026 Arcade joined NVIDIA's Open Secure AI Alliance as founding partner.
  • July 28, 2026 MCP '26 revision accelerated enterprise migration and tool standardization.

What critics are saying

  • Arcade's Smithery ownership creates registry bias accusations and partner distrust by late 2026.
  • Akto, LangChain, Portkey, and LiteLLM all attack Arcade's security middleware layer.
  • A single MCP standard change can strand Smithery and compress Arcade into a commodity gateway.

What makes Arcade AI unique

  • Arcade combines authentication, authorization, and auditing for agent tool calls in production.
  • August 5, 2026 Smithery acquisition gives Arcade control over MCP discovery and execution.
  • June 2026 Series A from SYN Ventures, Morgan Stanley, and Wipro funds enterprise trust.

Arcade acquires Smithery to control MCP registry and runtime layer

Arcade.dev has acquired Smithery, a public registry and hosting platform for Model Context Protocol servers. The deal, announced on 5 August, brought Smithery co-founder Anirudh Kamath onto the Arcade team. Financial terms were not disclosed. Smithery's registry grew to tens of thousands of entries, allowing developers to discover and run MCP servers quickly. Arcade provides a secure action layer that handles authorisation and auditing for AI agents in production environments. Arcade raised a $60 million Series A in June, led by SYN Ventures with participation from Morgan Stanley and Wipro, bringing total funding to $72 million. The acquisition combines Smithery's registry with Arcade's governance layer, creating a unified platform for enterprises deploying AI agents. Arcade says its benchmark found only 0.5% of over 43,400 indexed MCP servers earned an A grade based on tool behaviour quality.

Akto partners with Langchain, Portkey, and LiteLLM to embed AI agent security across enterprise infrastructure

Akto, an AI agent security platform, has announced partnerships with Langchain, Portkey, TrueFoundry, Arcade, and LiteLLM to provide real-time defence against prompt injection, uncontrolled tool access and data leakage in AI agent deployments. The integrations embed Akto's runtime guardrails and observability directly into AI infrastructure platforms that enterprises already use, requiring no additional implementation work. This addresses a critical gap, as 79% of enterprises reportedly have limited visibility into AI agent runtime execution. The partnerships enable automated protection across the AI agent stack, from gateways and runtimes to frameworks and deployment platforms. Akto's technology inspects tool calls and responses in real-time, blocking injections, redacting sensitive data and enforcing policies before agents perform actions. The company raised $295 million across three funding rounds.
