AIONA raises $19M to develop AI-powered design automation for manufacturing

AIONA has raised JPY 140 million to develop AI-driven design solutions for Japan's manufacturing sector. The funding round was led by ONBOARD, with participation from GxPartners, Crest Skill Partners, and Mizuho Capital through J-KISS-type stock acquisition rights, plus loans from Aichi Bank and Mizuho Bank. The Tokyo-based startup will use the funds to strengthen its development team and accelerate its AI agent "REVY". The platform automates design tasks including quality function deployment, reuse design selection, and design reviews. Japan's manufacturing industry faces skilled worker shortages as experienced engineers retire. REVY addresses this by capturing tacit knowledge from past technical documents and drawings, allowing designers to focus on higher-level decisions rather than searching and verifying information. The company plans to expand REVY's capabilities from individual design tasks to entire design processes over the coming year.
