Requirements
  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • The applicant must have at least two years of experience working with children, including camps, child care, tutoring, or nannying.
  • The applicant must be able to plan and implement group activities.
  • The applicant must have completed 12 credits of 100-level or higher college coursework and possess a GED or high school diploma.
  • The applicant must complete the minimum required STARS training.
  • The applicant must hold CPR and first aid certification.
  • The applicant must complete pre-employment tuberculosis testing and receive the required measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination.
  • The applicant must possess a food worker card.
  • The applicant must have a cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide MERIT registry.
  • The applicant must adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities using the curriculum provided by the YDCoE.
  • Supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience for each child.
  • Provide guidance to staff and volunteers overseeing children's activities when needed.
  • Communicate day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information professionally with parents and guardians.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures for medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Help maintain a developmentally appropriate site, including its appearance, décor, and cleanliness.
  • Prepare and serve snacks when needed and clean the snack area.
  • Assist parents with child check-in and check-out.
  • Assume responsibility for program operation when designated and qualified DCYF staff are not on the premises.
  • Provide on-site support for the school-based Play Everyday Program.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Ensure staff are properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization's abuse risk management standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Applicants aged 21 or older are preferred.
  • One to two years of leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation, is preferred.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English is preferred.
