About the job

Requirements
  • At least 7 years of experience in People and Talent, including at least 2 years leading talent at a company with 50 to 500 people; experience recruiting for both go-to-market and engineering roles.
  • Hands-on ownership of People operations at a growing company, including PEO and HRIS administration, payroll, benefits, and performance review cycles.
  • Personally closed senior hires sought by competing companies.
  • Ability to manage recruiting funnel metrics, including stage conversion, coverage ratios, source yield, and cost per hire, and defend the figures to an executive team.
  • Experience partnering with managers on performance issues and difficult conversations, with judgment about when to involve Legal.
  • Experience building sourcing, screening, research, or People-operations workflows with AI tools, with demonstrable results.
  • Ability to write and communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work in person in the New York office.
  • Ability to remain hands-on for at least two quarters across sourcing, screening, backup scheduling, payroll, and benefits.
  • Ability to address scheduling delays, inconsistent scorecard discipline, gaps in candidate pipelines, and piecemeal People processes, and build a Talent and People function.
Responsibilities
  • Define in writing what top talent means for each function, create calibrated scorecards and interview questions, and uphold the hiring bar, including when hiring managers or executives seek exceptions.
  • Maintain a continuously active pipeline of named, mapped, warm candidates for critical roles, including currently filled seats.
  • Make direct sourcing and referrals the default recruiting channels and own the referral engine.
  • Reduce the time from meeting an exceptional candidate to signed offer from weeks to days.
  • Own recruiting funnel metrics and service-level agreements, including time to hire, time to fill, and offer acceptance rate.
  • Personally manage the final stage of every senior hire, including compensation discussions, competing offers, partner and relocation concerns, and start dates.
  • Manage search-firm relationships and agency spending, reducing agency costs where possible and blended cost per hire.
  • Ensure pay ranges are included in job postings, interviews are structured and consistent, records are maintained in Greenhouse, and hiring decisions are defensible.
  • Own and continuously improve employee lifecycle processes and systems from offer through offboarding.
  • Run consistent onboarding and offboarding experiences and coordinate across functions to accelerate new-hire productivity.
  • Administer and optimize HR systems and the PEO relationship, including day-to-day operations and data accuracy.
  • Manage benefits administration, annual enrollment, vendor relationships, employee communications, and day-to-day benefits questions.
  • Plan and run company-wide performance review cycles, including timelines, systems, communications, manager support, and completion tracking.
  • Track and analyze People metrics, including retention, regretted attrition, eNPS, and time to productivity, and present trends and recommendations to leadership.
  • Own internal communications for People programs, policies, benefits, performance cycles, and organizational updates; support People-related board reporting and executive initiatives.
  • Manage and develop the Office Manager, setting priorities and enabling ownership of day-to-day operations and the Soho office experience.
  • Own employee feedback strategy, including eNPS and other surveys, and lead the eNPS working group to turn themes into accountable actions.
  • Plan and execute company-wide All Hands meetings, including agendas, stakeholder coordination, communications, and logistics.
  • Lead strategy, planning, and execution of company offsites and team-building experiences.
  • Build employee recognition and appreciation programs, including recognition initiatives, swag, and celebrations.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, IT, and leadership on company-wide initiatives affecting people and the organization.
  • Meet first-year targets including filling committed seats without unauthorized bar exceptions; achieving 95% new-hire “would hire again” ratings at 90 days; reaching stated role-open-to-signed-offer timelines and offer acceptance targets; increasing sourced and referred hiring; growing employee referrals; reducing agency fees; cutting executive time per hire; maintaining warm candidate benches; ensuring payroll and benefits accuracy; completing performance reviews on schedule; documenting onboarding plans and core People policies; measuring engagement; and tracking regretted attrition.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience competing with Google, Meta, OpenAI, or a well-funded Series C company for candidates and winning on mission and growth rather than cash.
  • Experience rejecting a hiring manager’s preferred candidate and being proven right.
  • Experience building a referral program that generates at least a quarter of total hires.
  • Experience recruiting in a company where executives are deeply involved in hiring and turning that involvement into an advantage.
  • Experience hiring ahead of need by mapping and warming a market before a requisition exists.
  • Experience managing an office or workplace function, or leading a direct report who did.
  • Experience planning company offsites or All Hands meetings that employees remember.
