About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM field and at least 5 years of relevant military or professional experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM field and at least 3 years of relevant military or professional experience, or a PhD and at least 1 year of relevant military, professional, or academic experience.
  • An active U.S. Government Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Systems engineering experience emphasizing requirements development, decomposition, and architecture definition for complex systems.
  • Direct experience using Cameo/MagicDraw or an equivalent model-based systems engineering tool for SysML-based modeling at the system or subsystem level.
  • Experience providing technical solutions to a wide range of complex, difficult problems consistent with organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Support requirements development, decomposition, allocation, and traceability within Cameo, translating customer and stakeholder needs into system, segment, and subsystem requirements.
  • Develop and maintain operational, functional, and physical system architectures using SysML and model-based systems engineering methods, including use case, activity, sequence, block definition, and internal block diagrams.
  • Integrate requirements, behaviors, interfaces, and constraints into a coherent model supporting mission analysis, system design, and verification and validation planning.
  • Apply established modeling conventions and guidelines, and recommend improvements to enhance consistency and usability of the system model.
  • Coordinate requirements and architecture updates with multidisciplinary teams, including mission systems, avionics, ground systems, communications, and vehicle teams.
  • Generate model-based views and reports for technical reviews such as SRR, PDR, and CDR, communicating requirements coverage and architecture status.
  • Collaborate with requirements management and configuration management to help baseline the Cameo model and maintain alignment with tools such as DOORS/DOORS Next.
  • Provide model-based systems engineering and Cameo support and informal mentoring to engineers contributing to the model.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting mission planning or ground systems, including participation in defining operational concepts, workflows, or interfaces between air vehicle and ground mission systems.
  • Experience with air vehicle or mission system requirements, including performance, avionics, mission, or integration requirements, and capturing those requirements in a model-based systems engineering/Cameo model.
  • Exposure to mission systems and communications architectures, such as data links, networks, and interfaces between onboard systems, ground segments, and external assets.
  • Experience applying model-based systems engineering/SysML to represent mission threads or operational scenarios spanning vehicle, mission systems, and ground systems.
  • Experience integrating Cameo models with requirements management tools such as DOORS/DOORS Next, or generating basic traceability and coverage reports.
  • Prior experience supporting design reviews with model-based artifacts on defense or aerospace programs.

About the Company

Northrop Grumman

Builds stealth bombers, missiles, and satellites

Northrop Grumman builds military aircraft, missiles, rocket motors, satellites, and electronic systems, mostly for the American military and allied governments. It designed the B-2 stealth bomber and built NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, the largest telescope ever sent to space. The company works through four businesses: aircraft, missiles and ammunition, radar and communications systems, and space hardware such as satellites and solid rocket boosters. Most revenue comes from long-term government contracts, many of them classified. Its roots go back to Northrop Aircraft, founded in 1939, and it took its name after buying Grumman in 1994 and is based in Falls Church, Virginia.
