Requirements
  • You must be at least 21 years of age.
  • You must have a minimum of 45 college credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or equivalent.
  • You must have at least three years of experience working with children kindergarten-aged and younger.
  • You must have at least two years of supervisory experience.
  • You must be able to model and demonstrate Y values: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring, and Passion for Excellence.
  • You must hold current state-approved first-aid certification.
  • You must hold current state-approved infant/child CPR certification.
  • You must hold HIV/AIDS training certification.
  • You must hold a current Washington State Food Handlers Card.
  • You must complete pre-employment TB testing and MMR vaccination requirements.
  • Employees and volunteers must adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Staff must be properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization’s abuse risk management standards.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure consistent safety and high-quality programs focused on equity and justice through youth development best practices and programming models under the guidance of the Youth Development Center of Excellence; manage the application or renewal process for Early Achievers and other assigned accreditations.
  • Direct the development and operations of assigned early education centers, including managing enrollment goals and expansion opportunities, assessing local market demand, distributing program information to recruit enrollments, and coordinating tours and follow-up for new inquiries.
  • Develop and manage budgets averaging $800,000–$2 million, meet fiscal objectives, monitor revenue and expenses, and manage net outcomes.
  • Lead and direct assigned staff by observing, teaching, modeling, coaching, recognizing accomplishments, and managing performance in collaboration with Human Resources; support staff in maintaining program schedules.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteers; conduct staff meetings and organize training; maintain required staff/child ratios; ensure staff meet ongoing education and professional development requirements.
  • Review and approve program plans, including lesson, behavior, and event plans.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with local YMCA facilities, co-located programs and services, and community organizations to support assigned program areas; nurture ongoing relationships with children, parents/guardians, staff, and community stakeholders through advisory groups, newsletters, and family events.
  • Maintain records required by YMCA and Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families standards, including attendance, immunization, registration, accident, discipline, and fire evacuation records.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures concerning medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies; communicate confidential and evaluative information professionally with parents/guardians and promptly report critical issues to a supervisor.
  • Ensure the safety and upkeep of facilities and equipment; coordinate with YMCA or landlord facility staff to maintain compliance with Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families standards; ensure developmentally appropriate classrooms, materials, marketing materials, décor, and cleanliness using Early Achievers Accreditation resources.
  • Supervise children as needed to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience; prepare and serve meals or snacks as needed; maintain required certifications and training.
  • Provide leadership and support for the annual fundraising campaign and assigned volunteer committees or boards; participate in the Center Director Work Group and lead association-wide planning and operations subgroups.
  • Maintain professional relationships with families, facility personnel, and the community; support a positive reputation as a school partner and respond to concerns.
  • Use a computer for extended periods, communicate using a computer and phone or smart device, and move around the work environment; occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of licensed childcare and related experience.
  • Knowledge of youth development best practices.
  • Knowledge of and prior experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English may be helpful.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and lived experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills needed to perform effectively may be considered.
