About the job

Requirements
  • Have 12 or more years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, vendor management, or commercial leadership, with strong judgment about supplier choices, negotiations, contracts, and risk.
  • Have built or transformed a procurement capability through rapid growth or change, with clear evidence of better execution, commercial outcomes, or user experience.
  • Have managed managers and developed strong teams through hiring, coaching, performance management, succession planning, and thoughtful use of internal and external capacity.
  • Have worked in or closely with marketing, sales, or commercial teams, ideally serving procurement buyers, and be able to turn customer needs into use cases and business cases and deliver commercial results with partner teams.
  • Know the procurement industry, including its buyers, technology providers, service firms, and buying priorities, and understand how to sell to Procurement, including how buyers assess risk, negotiate, and secure internal support.
  • Use industry analysts, market research, buyer conversations, and professional networks to form a point of view on emerging trends and inform roadmaps, partnerships, and go-to-market priorities.
  • Have turned AI, automation, or enterprise technology into capabilities people use; work with technical partners, drive adoption, measure improvements, and recognize where human judgment remains essential.
  • Set direction when the path is not defined, prioritize work and resources, explain tradeoffs plainly, earn support from teams not directly managed, and be curious about AI and willing to test, learn, and change course.
Responsibilities
  • Build and lead the organization by hiring and developing managers, coaching performance, and building succession and leadership depth. Decide how employees, contractors, delivery partners, and AI share the work, and hold leaders accountable for results, capacity, and team health.
  • Own sourcing enablement and delivery operations. Set service commitments and quality standards with the Delivery and Contract Management leaders, match support to deal complexity and risk, and use internal customer feedback to improve service. Category and Sourcing leads retain ownership of their strategies and deals, including supplier selection, negotiations, and purchasing.
  • Lead the sourcing operating rhythm by bringing demand, priorities, and capacity into one forward plan informed by workload and performance data. Work with category leaders to make tradeoffs, resolve dependencies, and follow through on commitments. Provide inputs to Procurement-wide planning and functional business reviews.
  • Strengthen contracting by partnering with Legal and Procurement Operations/COE on contract lifecycle management, approved templates, and negotiation playbooks that improve quality and free category teams to focus on strategic deals.
  • Lead RACI development by defining responsibilities, decision rights, handoffs, and escalation paths within Procurement and across partner teams. Define how the team prioritizes work, allocates resources, and resolves delivery issues.
  • Create mechanisms to bring sourcing into decisions earlier by connecting business demand, supplier activity, and renewals—including work outside formal intake—with Sourcing teams, so options can be shaped before commitments and Finance and cross-functional teams have better visibility.
  • Build and prove AI-enabled ways of working. Own use-case priorities, adoption, and business outcomes for sourcing and contracting experiences that begin in ChatGPT and connect to trusted enterprise systems. Partner with Finance Enterprise Technology on technical delivery and with Legal, Security, and Operations on controls and support, including preserving access restrictions and contractual commitments. Turn what works into reusable capabilities, demonstrations, and product feedback.
  • Define Procurement’s commercial-enablement approach with GTM, Partnerships, Legal, and Compliance, including program scope, decision rights, purchasing independence, and information-sharing boundaries. Lead Procurement’s analysis, coordination, and follow-through for approved programs; GTM owns customer sales. Maintain independent purchasing decision-making and identify and escalate any proposed linkage between OpenAI’s purchasing commitments and customer sales.
  • Help define goals and measures of success for Procurement’s contribution to OpenAI adoption and commercial growth with Sourcing leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Bring procurement-buyer expertise into GTM. Own this team’s buyer insights and use cases. Work with Marketing, Sales, Product, Customer Success, and Partnerships to shape demonstrations, industry content, and customer conversations using examples approved for external use.
  • Drive OpenAI adoption across the procurement industry. Work with Sourcing leadership, partners, and GTM to explore how Procurement third parties and partners can adopt and distribute OpenAI capabilities. Contribute industry expertise and evidence from internal use; GTM and Partnerships own commercialization.
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance to embed business-integrity and confidentiality safeguards, and implement required disclosures, recusals, and independent-decision-making arrangements.

About the company

OpenAI researches and builds artificial intelligence models and turns them into products for people, developers, and businesses, with a stated mission of making sure artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. Its launch of ChatGPT in 2022 brought generative AI into everyday use. People use ChatGPT to ask questions, write, code, and analyze files, developers build OpenAI's models into their own apps through its API, and its Codex agent works through coding tasks on its own. OpenAI earns money from ChatGPT subscriptions, business plans, and API usage. Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and others co-founded it in 2015; it is based in San Francisco and overseen by a nonprofit, the OpenAI Foundation.

AIM Intelligence joins OpenAI's partner network, launching Stinger-Daybreak security assessments

AIM Intelligence, a Seoul-based AI safety and security company, has expanded its cybersecurity collaboration with OpenAI. It unveiled an application security assessment service that links its AI blue-teaming platform, Stinger, with OpenAI's Daybreak cybersecurity program. The service combines code vulnerability analysis using the Daybreak Blue model, runtime testing with Stinger, and expert review. It covers AI applications, web services, and APIs, and weighs flaws against an application's permissions, configurations, and data flows to show which to fix first. Results include reproduction evidence for validated findings and remediation guidance. The service is aimed at Korean organizations. On October 22 at OpenAI DevDay Exchange Seoul, OpenAI introduced AIM Intelligence as a Select Partner in the OpenAI Partner Network.

OpenAI launches Decisions API to rival TypeSafe, the $7.6B startup behind Jev

OpenAI has made its Decisions API model widely available, entering a market that recently made TypeSafe, a startup founded by a former OpenAI researcher, a $7.6 billion company. The API became available to all customers on Thursday. Decision models act as super classifiers: given a set of options, they choose quickly and rate their confidence. Developers use them in place of large language models to work faster and at much lower cost. OpenAI built its version by reconfiguring ChatGPT Luna. Product lead Nikunj Handa said response times fell from one to three seconds to 100 to 180 milliseconds. Speak, which builds AI language tutors, cut the time between actions from 1.4 seconds to 0.13 seconds. Other early customers included Box, Datadog, and Ramp. On public benchmarks, OpenAI's model ranks eighth and fourteenth, behind TypeSafe's Jev model.

Defenders' window narrows as Chinese AI models close in, while Meta posts $64.6B revenue

Meta said third-quarter revenue rose 26% to $64.6 billion, slightly above its forecast, and announced a new class of nonvoting common stock to raise capital for its AI spending without diluting chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg's control. Shares rose 2% in after-hours trading. Existing shareholders will get one Class C share for each Class A or B share they hold. The stock can be issued from January 19. Meta gave no timing or size for an equity offering. Free cash flow was negative $2.12 billion, against positive $10.63 billion a year earlier, due to AI investment. Full-year capital spending is expected at $135 billion to $145 billion, within its earlier range. Operating income fell 37% to just under $13 billion, partly due to a nearly $10 billion legal charge. A New Mexico judge also ordered Meta to pay $25 billion in a Cambridge Analytica case.
