Requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, design trends, products, construction methodology, building systems, material application, and manufacturer and supplier appropriateness.
  • Ability to review and understand programs, drawings, and design narratives to discern design intent.
  • Ability to meet with project designers, architects, and managers to discern product desires before they are documented and help the design team decide on product selections in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of project delivery and procurement models for private and public projects.
  • Knowledge of construction procedures and schedules.
  • Knowledge of building codes, energy compliance requirements, Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines standards, and federal and state compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of American Institute of Architects contracts and standard construction phase documents.
  • General understanding of civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and similar building systems.
  • Ability to research and incorporate findings into technical documents.
  • Ability to self-organize, work on multiple projects simultaneously, and produce results within deadlines.
  • Ten or more years of experience in architectural practice, including three to five years in specification development and delivery of project manuals.
  • Experience delivering project technical documents and interfacing with clients and consultants.
  • A valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to pass a driving record background check.
Responsibilities
  • Work among specification writers to support clients and project teams across the country in creating project specifications and project manuals.
  • Apply specification knowledge to commercial, civic, and institutional project types.
  • Collaborate with teams to select appropriate products and materials for the project type and region, and work with clients and contractors to develop project manuals.
  • Create and maintain standards and templates supporting various project types and service regions.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with project teams and consultants to provide and refine information in construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Oversee preparation of project manuals for projects of different scales and complexity.
  • Prepare and review procurement and contracting requirements, including Division 0 and Division 1 sections, and coordinate them with technical specification sections.
  • Review drawings, documents, and team interviews to determine specification needs and coordinate compliance with project requirements, firm standards, laws, regulations, rules, and codes.
  • Write, edit, coordinate, and produce architectural outline specifications and three-part specifications for various project types using CSI MasterFormat.
  • Perform quality-control reviews of design drawings for quality, technical accuracy, and coordination with specifications using Bluebeam or another digital format.
  • Collaborate with project architects, managers, and designers on product and material selection; perform material and product research; coordinate with design teams and consultants; assist with material and system constructability analysis; and incorporate sustainable design solutions.
  • Coordinate and review engineering and consultant technical specifications and compile them into complete project manuals.
  • Provide specification support during construction administration, assist the construction administration team in maintaining design intent, evaluate substitutions and submittals, respond to requests for information, and obtain feedback on specified product performance.
  • Develop and improve document standards and best-practice procedures with design, specification, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, quality assurance and quality control, and construction administration personnel.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with product representatives; stay current with product and system development, new methods and materials, code changes, and industry trends; and educate staff on specifications, keynoting, technical materials information, new products, materials, and technology.
  • Act as a resource for technical questions, technical detail review, submittal review, and material and product selections.

  • Experience with a large variety of public-sector project types across different sizes and levels of complexity.

Pommerenck has over 25 years of experience in executive leadership, project management, engineering, and construction. Dewberry recognized for sustainable and energy-efficient design. 06.19.2026 Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that it has received a 2025-2026 Award of Excellence from the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services Building Design and Construction Division. The award recognizes the firm for its sustainable and energy-efficient design for the Jermantown Vehicle Service Center electric vehicle (EV) charging station project in Fairfax, Virginia. Dewberry's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) practice led electrical engineering and construction administration services for EV service equipment (EVSE) design and installation. The new EV charging infrastructure supports up to 14 fleet vehicles and two public vehicles through Level 2 chargers. Installation of the charging stations aligns with the county's Community-Wide Energy and Climate Action Plan (CECAP), which aims for carbon neutrality across Fairfax County government operations by 2040 and community-wide carbon neutrality by 2050. Dewberry is now leading additional projects to support the county's transition to energy-efficient vehicle fleet operations. Bryant brings 30 years of environmental consulting experience supporting industrial, commercial, and government clients in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Her project management experience encompasses all phases of investigation, remediation, and regulatory closure, with specialized expertise in New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection requirements, including ISRA compliance. Bryant has led investigations involving solvents, petroleum products, metals, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and has prepared complex regulatory submissions.
