LG Electronics is establishing its first US chiller factory in Virginia to meet growing demand for AI data centre cooling solutions. The 350,000-square-foot facility in Isle of Wight County will produce air-cooled chillers, with production beginning in the first half of 2027. The company plans to invest KRW 150 billion total across the new US facility and expanded production lines at existing factories in Pyeongtaek and Changwon, South Korea. The Virginia plant will create over 150 jobs. LG is positioning itself as a comprehensive "Chip-to-Chiller" solutions provider. With more than half the world's AI data centres located in North America, the region represents a significant market opportunity. Global data centre capacity is projected to grow from 226 GW in 2026 to 420 GW in 2030, with 60% concentrated in North America.
LG Electronics unveiled its Hydronic Modular cooling system for AI data centres at Data Center World Asia 2026 in Singapore on 29 September. The factory-built container units connect on-site, reducing construction work and supporting phased capacity expansion. The system pre-assembles pumps, valves, emergency buffer tanks and piping in ISO-standard containers. LG also displayed an air-cooled, oil-free inverter turbo chiller, a Fan Wall Unit and liquid-cooling coolant distribution units in 1-megawatt and 2.6-megawatt classes. Nvidia has certified LG's coolant distribution units in 600-kilowatt to 1-megawatt classes and in the 2.6-megawatt class. LG Energy Solution showcased batteries for backup units, whilst LG CNS displayed a prefabricated modular data centre system.
LG Electronics USA has introduced the LG MAGNIT Gen 2 Micro LED LMPD display, targeting high-end commercial installations. The display combines LG's Micro LED technology with NovaStar's COEX 5G Solution, offering advanced image processing and system management capabilities. The LMPD will debut on 15 September at Starpower's Dallas showroom. It features 160-degree viewing angles, HDR10 and HLG support, and enhanced cabling flexibility with signal transmission extending up to 6.2 miles via fibre-optic links. The display incorporates LG's FLAT technology for precise module alignment and includes five-layer grayscale calibration for improved consistency. It's designed for corporate spaces, auditoriums, and control rooms requiring large-scale, high-resolution visual displays. The LMPD joins LG's MAGNIT LED LMPx Series, which includes models for both residential and commercial applications.
Ceva and LG Electronics have partnered to deliver a complete Ultra-Wideband (UWB) solution for automotive, industrial and consumer products. The collaboration combines Ceva-Waves UWB baseband IP and software with LG's UWB radio frequency technology on TSMC's 22nm process. The companies have already secured a major US semiconductor company as a customer for the joint offering. The partnership aims to reduce engineering effort and accelerate development of UWB-enabled systems-on-chip. UWB technology is expanding beyond digital keys and trackers into applications requiring precise location awareness. According to ABI Research, UWB device shipments are expected to reach nearly 1.18 billion by 2030, up from 597 million in 2026. The solution supports the latest IEEE 802.15.4ab standard and enables applications including secure access, asset tracking, indoor navigation and sensing.
Marriott International and LG Electronics have developed a cloud-based guest room entertainment platform to modernise in-room experiences across Marriott's participating hotels. The collaboration combines LG's hospitality technology with Marriott's enterprise infrastructure, enabling seamless device management and connected guest experiences. The platform launches initially as a pilot programme in 40 hotels across the United States and Canada, with plans for potential global expansion. It features linear TV, streaming services, over 40 OTT applications, and 250 channels. The system transforms televisions from standalone devices into integrated room management tools. The technology provides Marriott with centralised monitoring of device health and performance across properties. Hotel teams can track individual televisions, entire properties, or portfolios, enabling faster issue resolution and more efficient updates. Future plans include extending the platform into public and shared hotel spaces.
