The launch comes as Lucid attempts to expand beyond the luxury sedan market, having begun commercial Gravity production in late 2024. Lucid delivered 3,953 vehicles in the second quarter, up 19% year over year, with revenue climbing 56% to $405 million. The company ended Q2 with $3 billion in total liquidity and expects to maintain operations well into 2027. Zendaya loves "growing up alongside" Tom Holland The company decided to postpone its debut until 2027, a measure that coincides with a process of internal adjustments and a strategy focused on strengthening its business before expanding its portfolio. While that project continues to advance, the American brand will concentrate its efforts on another novelty. It is a high-performance variant of the Lucid Gravity, a model that will seek to become one of the most powerful and fastest electric SUVs in its category. The Cosmos will need more time. The Cosmos will be the first representative of a new generation of mid-size electric vehicles developed by Lucid. Although initially planned for an earlier date, the company confirmed that production will begin during the second half of 2027. Currently, the vehicle continues to go through different validation phases. Engineers are working on endurance tests, structural evaluations, safety certifications, battery development, and trials under extreme weather conditions to ensure that the model reaches the market with the standards expected by the company. A platform to reduce costs. The new SUV will debut the Midsize architecture, a completely new platform with which Lucid aims to reduce manufacturing costs without sacrificing efficiency, range, or performance. Thanks to that technological base, the brand hopes to offer models with greater range per charge, better performance, and a starting price below $50,000, a figure with which it will seek to compete more directly in one of the fastest-growing segments of the American market. In addition to the Cosmos, Lucid has already confirmed the development of a second SUV called Earth, oriented towards more family and recreational use. The company is also working on a third member of this family, although it is still keeping the project's details under wraps. Gravity will be the big novelty. While the Cosmos continues to evolve, the spotlight will fall on the Gravity. Lucid announced that it will take advantage of the upcoming Monterey Car Week in California to present a high-performance version inspired by the Air Sapphire. Although the company has not yet released official specifications, it is expected that this SUV will incorporate a large part of the technology of the brand's sports sedan. The Air Sapphire develops 1,234 horsepower, so the new Gravity promises to be among the highest-performance electric vehicles available on the market. Lucid's long-term stability hinges on its ability to successfully launch its most affordable model to date, the smaller Cosmos SUV. And while things might not go particularly well at the moment, with the startup officially delaying the mid-size EV's launch to next year, at least development is still underway. What's more, the company published the first official images of the $50,000 Tesla Model Y rival, with a couple of shots slipping under the radar in the startup's latest earnings report. Incite D already knew from the patent images that Lucid's most affordable EV will have a sloping roofline akin to the BMW X4, but now Incite D also get to see how that technical drawing translates into the real deal. There's a pair of horizontal LED taillights, as well as a pretty wide third brake light that sits at the bottom of the rear windshield. Usually, carmakers put the third brake light above the rear window, but in the Cosmos SUV's case, the glass is nearly horizontal, which looks pretty cool, but might result in lackluster visibility. Up front, there's an extremely compact headlight that appears to integrate all of the beams in a single, ultra-slim enclosure. On the dashboard, a very wide screen enclosure can be spotted in one of the photos. The company previously disclosed that the Cosmos will come with a single, ultra-wide curved screen. Initially, the Lucid Cosmos was scheduled to go into production in late 2026 at the startup's new factory in Saudi Arabia, but that timeline has now been revised, and the model will start rolling off the assembly line in early 2027 before ramping up in the second half of the year. Lucid's AMP-2 plant is not yet finished, and, more importantly, the company doesn't want to rush this crucial model to avoid the frustrating and costly mistakes that came with the Air and Gravity, both of which suffered from software issues. "Our objective is clear: Mid-size will launch only when every process and quality requirement has been met," said Lucid CEO Silvio Napoli. "We will not repeat the mistakes of the past by bringing a product to market before it is ready." To try to keep things moving in the right direction, Lucid said it must hit four "must-win projects." One of those is the successful launch of its mid-size product portfolio, which will include two more models in addition to the Cosmos. Robotaxis, the Saudi Arabia factory, and an "operating reset," which includes layoffs and a $1.4 billion cash flow improvement.

Lucid Motors' CEO Silvio Napoli has acknowledged the electric vehicle maker "launched products before they were ready" and failed customers. Speaking on an earnings call Tuesday, Napoli said the company "disappointed on several fronts and for far too long", citing missed commitments, under-investment in service, and slow responses to quality issues. The company reported a net loss exceeding $1 billion in the quarter. Lucid is now delaying its planned $50,000 midsize Cosmos SUV until the second half of 2027, pushing back from this year's expected production start. The automaker has introduced new quality gates to ensure production and quality requirements are met before launch. The company has cut 30% of its workforce this year and restructured its leadership.
