About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, with deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
  • Experience designing and operating a ledger, wallet, balance service, or another financial system of record where correctness and auditability are requirements.
  • Strong command of transactional consistency, idempotency, concurrency control, and relational data modeling in systems that cannot lose or double-count a transaction.
  • Experience building event-driven systems and working with message streaming platforms such as Kafka.
  • Demonstrated success setting technical direction and driving alignment across multiple teams.
  • Experience migrating live, high-traffic systems with minimal customer impact.
  • Ability to explain complex technical tradeoffs clearly to engineering, product, finance, and leadership audiences.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, regulated environment with changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture of the ledger and balance services, including the data model, consistency guarantees, and the interfaces other businesses use to read balances and authorize spend.
  • Design and build distributed services in Java and Spring Boot that handle high transaction volume with strict correctness, idempotency, and auditability requirements.
  • Model funds by type and eligibility so that each portion of a customer's balance is usable only where client, product, customer location, and transaction type allow, and so that a regulator-driven restriction can be applied quickly and safely.
  • Lead the migration of existing business wallets onto the shared ledger in phases, including dual-running, reconciliation, cutover, and rollback plans that avoid customer-visible downtime.
  • Architect event-driven integration using Java and architectural patterns so that balance changes are published reliably and downstream consumers can depend on ordering and delivery.
  • Carry responsible gaming protections with the balance, working with the Responsible Gaming and Fraud teams so that limits, self-exclusion, and other customer protections remain enforced as funds are used across businesses.
  • Work with Finance, Legal, and Compliance on how funds are attributed between businesses, how settlement and chargebacks are handled, and what data may be shared across Fanatics entities.
  • Build for reconciliation and audit, including complete transaction histories, financial reporting feeds, and tooling that lets Operations and Finance verify balances independently.
  • Lead technical initiatives that span multiple teams, and run architectural reviews, design sessions, and incident postmortems.
  • Mentor engineers and raise the standard for security, observability, reliability, and testing across the platform.
  • Partner with product, frontend, and mobile teams so that balance behavior is clear and consistent in every customer-facing experience.
  • Be open to occasional travel to Fanatics offices or industry events for planning, collaboration, and team development.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in online gaming, sports betting, fintech, banking, or payments.
  • Experience with a shared platform used by several business units, including managing adoption, versioning, and ownership boundaries.
  • Experience with financial reconciliation, settlement, or accounting-oriented data models.
  • Familiarity with data privacy and consent requirements when customer data moves between legal entities.
  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and observability tooling such as Datadog, Grafana, or CloudWatch.
  • Interest in developer experience, clean API design, and systems that remain maintainable as more teams depend on them.
