The announcement came as Adani and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari laid the foundation stone for the group's proposed 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir at New Town in Kolkata. The hospital project, to be developed by the Adani Foundation, will involve an investment of more than ₹4,000 crore. Speaking on the investment plan, Adani said, "We see West Bengal as our karmabhoomi in the East." He compared the state's role in the group's eastern operations with Mundra in Gujarat, which he said had become the foundation for the group's large-scale projects. The ₹1 lakh crore investment roadmap will cover infrastructure and energy projects across the state through 2035. Hospital to begin with cancer care. The Adani Arogya Mandir will be spread across 51.75 acres and will include a 2,000-bed multi-speciality hospital, a medical college, a nursing college and institutions for allied healthcare and paramedical education. Commenting on the healthcare project, Adani said, "The Adani Arogya Mandir will be a not-for-profit medical institution that will have 2,000 beds, with a thousand beds catering to economically weaker sections of society, eligible under state and central health insurance schemes." The first phase of the hospital will focus on cancer care and provide tertiary and specialised healthcare services. The campus will also include step-down and transitional care facilities, accommodation for relatives of patients and residential facilities for healthcare professionals. The medical college is planned to have an annual intake of 150 undergraduate students, more than 100 postgraduate students and more than 40 super-specialists. The group said the wider healthcare ecosystem is expected to generate about 10,000 jobs. The project will also include research facilities covering genomics, precision medicine, biomedical informatics, artificial intelligence, clinical trials and other areas of biomedical science. Speaking on the state's role in the group's plans, Adhikari said, "We look forward to your presence to rebuild Bengal. The final vision is not just a hospital campus, it will be a fully integrated healthcare city." Adani signs pacts on Writers' Building, Durga Puja. The Adani Foundation has engaged Mayo Clinic Global Consulting in the United States and SingHealth in Singapore for expertise in clinical care, academic medicine, digital health, quality, workforce development and innovation. Alongside the healthcare and infrastructure investments, the Adani Group signed two memoranda of understanding with the West Bengal government. One covers the restoration of the Writers' Building, while the other relates to support for Kolkata's Durga Puja ecosystem through the group's Adani Pujo Preview initiative.
