About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and 20 or more years of relevant industry experience.
  • A PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with 20 or more years of experience in SerDes IP validation, analog/mixed-signal circuit design, or silicon/system-level debug.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with oscilloscopes, bit error rate testers, protocol analyzers, and measurement setups tailored for SerDes PHYs.
  • Deep understanding of high-speed serial-link protocols, including PCIe, USB, Ethernet, and DisplayPort, and equalization techniques such as continuous-time linear equalization, decision-feedback equalization, and feed-forward equalization.
  • A strong foundation in analog/mixed-signal design principles and familiarity with signal-integrity and power-integrity impacts.
  • Programming skills in Python, C/C++, or similar languages, and data-analysis tools for validation automation and correlation studies.
  • Ability to break down complex problems, isolate issues, and perform root-cause analysis at circuit, protocol, and system levels.
  • Experience in design-for-validation, including fault injection, internal monitors, and behavioral hooks.
  • Experience validating multi-lane PHYs with adaptive equalization, clocking and clock-data recovery paths, and compliance requirements in real systems.
  • Familiarity with production and characterization flows, including margin-to-fail and stress-testing techniques.
  • Ability to guide test-coverage optimization to reduce execution time without sacrificing risk coverage.
  • Experience providing post-silicon insights that have shaped future design changes.

Responsibilities

  • Architect validation strategies that uncover weaknesses in design assumptions, stress-to-fail conditions, and system interactions across process, voltage, and temperature variations and real-world scenarios, including edge-case behaviors.
  • Define margin-to-fail validation strategies for high-speed SerDes PHYs across multiple process, voltage, and temperature conditions and system environments.
  • Develop and implement stress-to-fail methodologies for end-to-end systems, including testing equalization paths, clocking structures, jitter sensitivities, and link-training edge cases.
  • Collaborate with SerDes design, architecture, and system teams to review specifications, define coverage priorities, and build in design-for-test insertion or sensors that improve observability, measurements, pattern generation, and observability hooks.
  • Lead hands-on laboratory experiments to validate assumptions, isolate issues, root-cause failures, and refine test coverage for standalone IP and system-level interactions.
  • Partner with the validation team to balance test coverage and execution time and shape an efficient validation pipeline that reduces risk within time constraints.
  • Analyze silicon behavior across multiple builds and revisions, derive insights to refine validation, and inform design updates.
  • Provide post-silicon feedback to improve future architectural decisions, design margins, and validation methodology.
  • Guide junior validation engineers, share debug techniques, and contribute to internal standard processes for SerDes validation.

Desired Qualifications

  • A strong technical foundation and a hands-on, analytical approach to improving robustness, performance, and margin validation of high-speed SerDes PHYs.
  • Interest in exploring unexpected behavior and performing deep debug to find design flaws.

About the Company

Apple

Designs phones, computers and their operating systems

Apple designs and sells consumer electronics, from iPhone smartphones and Mac computers to tablets and wearable devices. Its operating systems manage apps and built-in functions for communication and work, while iCloud stores files and synchronizes data across devices. Customers buy additional digital services through subscriptions such as Apple Music and Apple TV, and developers distribute software through the App Store. Apple earns money from hardware sales, subscriptions and digital transactions, selling directly to customers and through retailers and mobile carriers around the world. It was founded in 1976 and has its headquarters in Cupertino, California.
