Requirements
  • An Associate's of Applied Science degree in Business Administration or a safety-related field and two years of safety-related experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • A safety background interpreting and applying safety requirements, developing safety procedures and reports, conducting safety audits, and maintaining Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Occupational Safety and Health Administration records.
  • Working knowledge of United States Environmental Protection Agency, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Department of Transportation, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommendations, and Quality requirements including AS 9100 and ISO 9000.
  • The ability to work and communicate effectively with the client, supervisor, and co-workers, assist with decisions, and function at all organizational levels.
  • The ability to work with little supervision and without conflict of interest.
  • General computer knowledge, good typing skills, and specific knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office software.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Glenn Research Center Safety and Mission Assurance to understand process safety management policy, requirements, and identified compliance gaps.
  • Work with test facility and station personnel to translate Safety and Mission Assurance guidance into actionable facility requirements.
  • Assist facility personnel with developing risk and hazard analyses, mitigation plans, and verification of hazard controls.
  • Interact regularly with facility personnel to track and report process safety management implementation status and facilitate issue resolution or escalation.
  • Provide operational oversight of critical station processes required for process safety management implementation, including management of change, non-conformances, operating procedures, risk management, knowledge management, training, and hazard analysis.
  • Submit required reports and ensure corrective measures are implemented with site personnel to support contract-wide compliance with NASA Glenn Research Center safety and environmental requirements, TFOME Health and Safety Plans, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Provide technical review and advice on issues in support of site program planning and review.
  • Participate in risk management and hazard analysis activities, coordinate with staff to identify facility requirements, and determine needs.
  • Obtain appropriate training and certifications to serve as an alternate emergency coordinator during mishaps involving chemical spills or releases.
  • Handle and respond to differing situations, problems, and deviations to ensure compliance with state and federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor new regulatory developments and assess their applicability.
  • Submit a monthly progress report to Glenn Research Center Safety and Mission Assurance.
  • Assist employees in writing and implementing Safe Plans of Action and Safety Observation Reports, and follow up to ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Perform other position-related duties assigned by management.
