Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.
  • Board Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certification is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • A current New Jersey Advanced Practice Nursing or Physician Assistant license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Practice autonomously and/or in consultation with collaborating or supervising physicians and other health care professionals to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients' health problems and needs.
  • Perform patient histories and physical examinations, determine working differential diagnoses, and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Order, perform, supervise, and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Prescribe pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies in accordance with applicable guidelines and state and federal law.
  • Provide therapeutic measures and deliver teaching, education, and counseling to individuals, families, and groups.
  • Formulate diagnoses for uncommon or unstable conditions in consultation with a collaborating or supervising physician, and refer patients or participate in dual management and treatment when appropriate.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses while emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Serve as a health care researcher, professional educator, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.
  • Document prescribed medications and authorized refills in the patient's chart.
  • Complete required continuing education and provide evidence-based medical practice.
  • Maintain accountability for health care outcomes and support quality of care through national certification, periodic peer review, and clinical outcome review.
