About the job

Requirements
  • Significant experience in Support Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or another role involving hands-on diagnosis of complex production issues.
  • Expert-level troubleshooting skills and a strong track record of resolving ambiguous technical problems across APIs, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise integrations.
  • Comfort working with logs, metrics, traces, API requests, authentication flows, and customer-provided code or configurations to understand system behavior and test hypotheses.
  • Experience leading or playing a central role in customer-impacting incidents, including severity assessment, technical coordination, stakeholder communication, root-cause analysis, and post-incident follow-through.
  • Ability to write code or scripts to reproduce issues, interrogate systems, automate repetitive work, and improve internal tools.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to engineers, customer technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leaders, especially when information is incomplete or evolving.
  • Ability to build high-trust relationships with customers and cross-functional partners while maintaining clear and scalable ownership boundaries.
  • Ability to identify patterns beyond immediate issues, improve systems, and prevent recurrence.
  • Ability to adapt as new information emerges and learn as needed.
  • Interest in using OpenAI’s products, agents, and emerging AI capabilities to transform technical support operations at scale.
Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues for Premium Support customers, including API failures, integration challenges, authentication errors, unexpected product behavior, performance degradation, and production incidents.
  • Analyze logs and system behavior, reproduce errors, test hypotheses, and isolate likely failure domains; identify root causes before escalation where possible, or provide a clear hypothesis and evidence to accelerate Engineering investigation.
  • Serve as a trusted expert on OpenAI products and systems, a critical escalation point, and a technical backstop for strategic customers.
  • Own customer-specific responses to high-impact incidents by assessing severity and business impact, initiating response paths, coordinating responders, maintaining ownership, and driving mitigation, resolution, and post-incident follow-through.
  • Provide accurate, proactive updates to customer technical teams, business stakeholders, executives, and internal partners during periods of uncertainty.
  • Document each customer’s architecture, integrations, dependencies, critical workloads, and operational constraints, and make this context accessible to Support, Product, and Engineering.
  • Partner with Go-to-Market and Technical Success teams to incorporate customer workload business importance and relevant commercial context into severity, prioritization, and communication while following established support processes.
  • Represent Support Engineering in customer meetings, including QBRs; partner with account teams to communicate technical health, surface risks and blockers, coordinate follow-up, and provide proactive updates.
  • Monitor customer integrations and support trends to identify emerging risks, recurring failure patterns, and readiness gaps before they become major escalations.
  • Prepare for launches, migrations, traffic increases, and business events by developing account-specific runbooks, validating escalation paths, coordinating support readiness, and providing heightened monitoring as needed.
  • Lead or contribute to incident reviews and postmortems, identify prevention opportunities, and track corrective actions through closure.
  • Translate recurring customer pain into evidence-backed feedback for Product and Engineering, particularly to improve product, integration, and deployment reliability and performance.
  • Turn customer investigations into scalable improvements, including troubleshooting guides, monitoring, internal tooling, support workflows, and AI-powered automation.
  • Help shape the operating model, technical standards, and tooling for Premium Support as the function grows globally.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Python, JavaScript, or similar programming languages.

About the company

OpenAI researches and builds artificial intelligence models and turns them into products for people, developers, and businesses, with a stated mission of making sure artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. Its launch of ChatGPT in 2022 brought generative AI into everyday use. People use ChatGPT to ask questions, write, code, and analyze files, developers build OpenAI's models into their own apps through its API, and its Codex agent works through coding tasks on its own. OpenAI earns money from ChatGPT subscriptions, business plans, and API usage. Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and others co-founded it in 2015; it is based in San Francisco and overseen by a nonprofit, the OpenAI Foundation.

  • Sales are compounding: OpenAI's yearly revenue pace doubled from $24 billion in March 2026 to nearly $50 billion in September.
  • Equity turns into cash regularly: staff sold $7 billion of shares in August 2026, after $6.6 billion in October 2025.
  • Room to grow: OpenAI plans to nearly double staff to 8,000 by year-end and listed 816 openings in October 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Its chief rival pulled ahead: Claude maker Anthropic's $965 billion valuation in May 2026 topped OpenAI's $852 billion.

AIM Intelligence joins OpenAI's partner network, launching Stinger-Daybreak security assessments

AIM Intelligence, a Seoul-based AI safety and security company, has expanded its cybersecurity collaboration with OpenAI. It unveiled an application security assessment service that links its AI blue-teaming platform, Stinger, with OpenAI's Daybreak cybersecurity program. The service combines code vulnerability analysis using the Daybreak Blue model, runtime testing with Stinger, and expert review. It covers AI applications, web services, and APIs, and weighs flaws against an application's permissions, configurations, and data flows to show which to fix first. Results include reproduction evidence for validated findings and remediation guidance. The service is aimed at Korean organizations. On October 22 at OpenAI DevDay Exchange Seoul, OpenAI introduced AIM Intelligence as a Select Partner in the OpenAI Partner Network.

OpenAI launches Decisions API to rival TypeSafe, the $7.6B startup behind Jev

OpenAI has made its Decisions API model widely available, entering a market that recently made TypeSafe, a startup founded by a former OpenAI researcher, a $7.6 billion company. The API became available to all customers on Thursday. Decision models act as super classifiers: given a set of options, they choose quickly and rate their confidence. Developers use them in place of large language models to work faster and at much lower cost. OpenAI built its version by reconfiguring ChatGPT Luna. Product lead Nikunj Handa said response times fell from one to three seconds to 100 to 180 milliseconds. Speak, which builds AI language tutors, cut the time between actions from 1.4 seconds to 0.13 seconds. Other early customers included Box, Datadog, and Ramp. On public benchmarks, OpenAI's model ranks eighth and fourteenth, behind TypeSafe's Jev model.

Defenders' window narrows as Chinese AI models close in, while Meta posts $64.6B revenue

Meta said third-quarter revenue rose 26% to $64.6 billion, slightly above its forecast, and announced a new class of nonvoting common stock to raise capital for its AI spending without diluting chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg's control. Shares rose 2% in after-hours trading. Existing shareholders will get one Class C share for each Class A or B share they hold. The stock can be issued from January 19. Meta gave no timing or size for an equity offering. Free cash flow was negative $2.12 billion, against positive $10.63 billion a year earlier, due to AI investment. Full-year capital spending is expected at $135 billion to $145 billion, within its earlier range. Operating income fell 37% to just under $13 billion, partly due to a nearly $10 billion legal charge. A New Mexico judge also ordered Meta to pay $25 billion in a Cambridge Analytica case.
