Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong production track record.
  • At least 6 years of experience building production distributed systems, ideally including internal developer platforms or API gateways at scale.
  • At least 5 years of experience in MLOps, LLMOps, ML platform engineering, or a hybrid DevOps and machine learning role at production scale.
  • Hands-on experience with observability tools for large language model systems, such as LangSmith, Langfuse, Braintrust, or Arize.
  • Working knowledge of evaluation methodology for large language model systems, including benchmark design, LLM-as-judge, and human review workflows.
  • Working fluency with the modern large language model ecosystem, including OpenAI or Anthropic APIs, an orchestration framework such as LangChain or LlamaIndex, a vector database, and an observability tool.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on production experience with large language model-based systems, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation, or LLM infrastructure.
  • Strong Python and one of Go or Java, with familiarity with asynchronous patterns, backpressure, and rate limiting.
  • Experience designing multi-tenant systems with hard isolation guarantees.
  • Cloud-native depth on Azure or AWS, including Kubernetes, service mesh, infrastructure as code with Terraform, and continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Experience shipping model updates safely in production using canaries, shadow evaluation, and rollback triggers.
  • Familiarity with the full machine learning lifecycle, including training pipelines, serving infrastructure, monitoring, and cost management.
  • A strong grasp of AI security fundamentals, including personally identifiable information handling, tenant isolation, and prompt injection basics.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly in asynchronous writing across distributed time zones.
  • Fluent English language skills.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and operate services in the central AI platform with clear API contracts, versioning, and service-level objectives.
  • Write production Python for AI services and contribute to shared libraries, software development kits, and integration patterns for product teams.
  • Instrument platform services with per-request cost tagging, latency and error metrics, quality signals, and audit logs.
  • Own the on-call rotation for AI platform services, author runbooks, and improve them after incidents.
  • Work directly with product engineering leads to onboard AI features onto the central platform.
  • Provide technical support, integration guidance, and troubleshooting to product teams consuming platform services.
  • Contribute to Architecture Decision Records and document technical tradeoffs.
  • Set the operational bar for observability, alerting, incident response, and post-incident reviews.
  • Own vendor evaluation for specialized tools and run bakeoffs when needed, making cost, quality, and reliability tradeoffs explicit.
  • Contribute to the AI security posture through personally identifiable information handling, tenant isolation, prompt injection defense, and audit logging.
  • Build retrieval, prompt, and guardrail systems for production large language model output.
  • Build retrieval-augmented-generation services covering ingestion, chunking, embeddings, retrieval quality, and hybrid search.
  • Develop prompt engineering systems with templates, evaluation, versioning, and per-tenant customization.
  • Implement guardrails and content safety controls, including input filtering, output validation, personally identifiable information redaction, and tool-use sandboxing.
  • Develop agent frameworks and tool-use patterns for production agent workflows.
  • Run domain-specific fine-tuning experiments and quality benchmarking.
  • Build a multi-provider model gateway with routing, fallback, retry, and rate-limit logic.
  • Develop a prompt registry with versioning and rollout controls such as canaries and feature flags.
  • Define API contracts, versioning, and deprecation strategies for shared libraries and software development kits.
  • Design tenant-isolation architecture for safely routing customer data through platform services.
  • Implement cost attribution and budget enforcement at the gateway layer.
  • Build observability infrastructure for prompt and response tracing, per-request cost tracking, quality signals, and drift detection.
  • Build evaluation infrastructure with golden datasets, offline evaluations, LLM-as-judge patterns, and regression testing.
  • Develop model deployment pipelines, including pipelines for fine-tuned models where applicable.
  • Build alerting and service-level-objective frameworks for AI services, treating quality regression as a first-class alert.
  • Build fine-tuning and reinforcement learning from human feedback pipelines when product-specific tuning is justified.
Desired Qualifications
  • Domain experience in procure-to-pay, enterprise resource planning integration, accounts payable, procurement, or adjacent finance and operations software.
  • Experience at a product company or private-equity-backed business-to-business software-as-a-service company, ideally on an internal platform team.
  • Contributions to open-source AI or machine learning infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with production agent frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or custom orchestration.
  • Prior experience on a founding platform team that shipped version one of a service used by multiple internal customers.
