First Sofar Sounds Gloucestershire event takes place in Forest of Dean.

First Sofar Sounds Gloucestershire event takes place in Forest of Dean. The first Sofar Sounds event in Gloucestershire took place in the Forest of Dean, showcasing intimate performances by local artists. Wednesday 23 rd September 2026 12:00 pm SPREAD THE NEWS Crispin performed at the first ever Sofar Sounds Gloucestershire. (Iliffe Media) AN immersive music event took place in the Forest of Dean, welcoming music artists to perform their songs in an intimate setting. The first- ever Sofar Sounds Gloucestershire event was held at Studio 250 in Cinderford, bringing three artists together for an evening of live music. The Studio is tucked away in the Forest of Dean and was created with musicians at the heart of what they do. A bright, open feel was apparent as soon as people stepped inside the building. Attendees were greeted by an array of vintage and sports cars, providing a unique atmosphere. A short walk upstairs led to the recording studio, where artists could see the wide range of facilities on offer. Sofar Sounds was founded in London in 2009 by Rafe Offer, Rocky Start, and Dave Alexander. The concept began when Rafe Offer invited a group of his friends to Dave Alexander's flat in north London to watch him perform. Since then, Sofar Sounds has expanded to major cities such as Paris, New York City and Los Angeles. At the first Sofar Sounds, Gloucestershire event, three artists performed without a specific opener or headliner which enabled a similar opportunity for all artists to showcase their music. Get your latest local news for free in your email inbox The artists included: Joshua Ó Cathasaigh, Sophie Sutton and Crispin all of whom provided a range of musical talent for the audience to tune into. Scott James, said: "We have just launched Gloucestershire's very first Sofar Sounds. We had an incredible evening. It is a very intimate setting where you get to know the artists and the way they write their songs. We will be expanding all across Gloucestershire." Ellie, the fiddle player for Joshua Ó Cathasaigh, said: "It was really cool and great to be a part of the first ever one and getting to play in a really beautiful, intimate setting with people wanting to appreciate new and upcoming talent." One of the attendees at the Sofar Sounds performance, Gracie Powell, said: "It has been really great. It is extremely cool to have something like this in the Forest of Dean and having this creative space." Sophie Sutton said: "It went brilliantly, it was such a nice night. I really love the intimacy of Sofar Shows and the in- built audience that you get is a great opportunity as an independent artist to share your music to a new audience." Also in the news Crispin said: "I have had a fantastic evening at Studio 250 with Sofar Sounds. It has been a dream of mine to do a Sofar Sounds gig, so literally a dream come true. "I sang a lot of original songs, some of them are coming out quite soon." A range of artists have previously taken part in Sofar Sounds gigs, including Billie Eilish, James Bay, Emeli Sandé and Tom Odell. A key feature which makes Sofar Sounds so distinctive is the closeness of the event. The audience is managed through a guest list system, with the exact location of the events not being released into closer to the time. SPREAD THE NEWS More Stories

Sofar Sounds Charleston announces Southern Charm Sessions on Oct. 1. September 21, 2026 2:51 PM Sofar Sounds Charleston will host Southern Charm Sessions on Thursday, Oct. 1, bringing its signature intimate live music experience to another unexpected Charleston setting. The one-night event will feature three emerging artists performing in Sofar's signature listening-room format, where audiences gather close to the performers for an evening centered around live music, discovery, and community. Known for reimagining how people experience live music, Sofar Sounds was founded in response to the scale and noise of traditional concerts. Instead of crowded venues and background chatter, Sofar creates intentional environments where artists and audiences can connect in a more meaningful, personal way. Now operating in hundreds of cities worldwide, Sofar Sounds hosts shows in unexpected spaces such as living rooms, rooftops, galleries, and neighborhood venues. Southern Charm Sessions brings that format to Charleston with a distinctly local twist, pairing live performances with local food, drinks, and community partnerships. Guests will be able to grab dinner from Shaka Shrimp food truck, while William Wolf will be serving a Pecan Old Fashioned featured for the evening. Sofar Charleston is also partnering with Playdate Charleston, bringing together two communities focused on creating new connections and experiences in the city. Guests are encouraged to put phones away, pause conversations, and fully engage with the performances, creating a shared experience that feels both intimate and memorable. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with music beginning at 8 p.m. Attendance is limited to preserve the atmosphere that defines Sofar shows. The artist lineup will be shared with confirmed ticket holders shortly before the event.

Sofar Sounds brings concerts and connection to Yonkers.

Sofar Sounds brings concerts and connection to Yonkers. The global music organization that connects artists with local communities will start hosting live events in Westchester this year. The 914 music scene is getting a fun addition to its already vibrant culture. Sofar Sounds, a company that organizes live music events in cities across the world, will touch down in Yonkers sometime this fall. Founded in 2009 by London creatives Rafe Offer, Rocky Start, and Dave Alexander, Sofar Sounds seeks to transform unconventional venues into intimate stages for up-and-coming artists. Apartments, art galleries, clothing stores, and churches - cozy community spaces that are not typically used for concerts - are just a few examples. Sofar has a track record of highlighting stars right before they take off. Musicians like Billie Eilish, Olivia Dean, and Hozier all played gigs organized by Sofar early in their careers. Is the world's next pop icon right here in Westchester? Follow the music. Since its founding, Sofar Sounds has introduced its widely popular concert model across the globe. It has established chapters in over 300 cities worldwide - including New York City, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Melbourne - but recently shifted its focus to hosting in mid-sized metropolitan areas. That's where Yonkers comes into the picture. - Advertisement - Community connection with Sofar Sounds. When organizing in a new city, the Sofar team gauges the community's musical interests and needs. Local producers who live in the area are hired; their role is to seek out compelling locations for shows and find artists to play them. (The Yonkers chapter of Sofar is currently hiring local producers; check out this application if you're interested.) Once a show is announced, those interested in attending a Sofar show buy tickets online. Venue addresses aren't revealed right away and only become available to ticket holders via email within 15 minutes of purchase. If a resident has a fitting event space in mind, Sofar also accepts suggestions through its website. "Typically, we're looking for spaces that fit 200 people or fewer so we can keep things feeling intimate," says Chyna Brackeen, vice president of experiences at Sofar Sounds. "People who come to our shows will sometimes say, 'My neighbor has this huge backyard that feels like you're in the middle of a forest. Wouldn't it be cool to do a show there?' We'll definitely take those suggestions." Play on. Musicians interested in playing a Sofar Sounds concert can fill out an application form online, which asks for one to three live performance videos and basic profile information. To keep things accessible for budding artists, Sofar does not consider touring history, social media presence, or similar components. Each Sofar show typically includes three acts on the bill. There's no specific headliner, giving each act an equal opportunity to show off their skills. All genres are welcome; R&B, pop, folk rock, and funk are just a few examples of sounds you might hear at a Sofar set. - Partner Content - Hitting the right notes. Along with giving local artists a chance to shine, Sofar's goal is to bring community members together through their love of music. Whether it leads to friendship - or even romance - Brackeen hopes their shows can be a "third space" for the music lovers of Yonkers to feel connected with their neighbors. If all goes well with the Yonkers launch, there might be plans to bring Sofar shows further up the Hudson. "We are currently recruiting in the mid and upper Hudson Valley," shares Brackeen. "We want to expand into the Rivertowns as well."
