Scatec starts construction of the 900 MW Shadwan wind project in Egypt.

Scatec starts construction of the 900 MW Shadwan wind project in Egypt. Published: Friday October 2, 2026 By: Oilfield Africa Review Scatec ASA, a leading renewable energy solutions provider, in partnership with EDF Power Solutions, has started construction of the 900 MW Shadwan onshore wind project in Egypt. In connection with the project, Scatec has signed equity bridge loan (EBL) agreements totalling USD 150 million with The Arab Energy Fund (TAEF). The 3-year EBL facility comprises USD 50 million for Shadwan and USD 100 million for the 1,950 MW solar 3,935 MWh BESS Energy Valley project. Scatec has also signed a joint development agreement with EDF, for a targeted equity stake of 29% in Shadwan, and intends to invite additional equity partners into the project. The 900 MW Shadwan project with a total capex of USD 716 million will be one of the largest onshore wind farms in Africa. The project is expected to generate approximately 4 TWh annually and avoid an estimated 1.6 million tons of CO2 emissions annually. Shadwan will be delivered through Scatec's highly capital-efficient integrated model, optimising Scatec's equity funding requirement by combining the equity bridge loan from TAEF with cash flows generated from Scatec's D&C activities. "Reaching these milestones reflects the scale and momentum of what Scatec is building in Egypt. Shadwan and Energy Valley together represent a significant step in our ambition to develop a world-class renewable energy portfolio in one of the most attractive markets for cost-efficient, secure and clean energy. Tunisia: Norway's Scatec to invest €80 million in solar plant in Tataouine.

Tunisia: Norway's Scatec to invest €80 million in solar plant in Tataouine. 23/09/2026 A 120 MW photovoltaic solar power plant will be built in the Remada Ouest area of Tunisia's Tataouine governorate, with an estimated investment of nearly €80 million. Developed by Norwegian group Scatec, the project is expected to become operational by the end of 2028. The project was discussed on Monday, September 21, 2026, during a working session at the Tataouine governorate headquarters attended by Scatec's project director, representatives of Tunisia's electricity and gas utility STEG, local authorities and the engineering consultancy. The meeting focused on the project's various components and the findings of its environmental and social impact assessment. 120 MW plant to cover 200 hectares. The future plant will occupy around 200 hectares in the Remada Ouest area and is expected to generate approximately 260 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of around 200,000 people. The project also includes the construction of a 2-km, 225-kV overhead high-voltage transmission line. It will connect the plant to the STEG grid through an existing line linking Borj Bourguiba to the Tataouine power plant. From an environmental perspective, the plant is expected to avoid around 130,000 tons of CO[2] emissions annually. During construction, the project is expected to create direct and indirect jobs, while 10 to 15 permanent positions are planned once the plant becomes operational. Construction is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2027 and is expected to take between 15 and 18 months under the contract. Commissioning is planned for the end of 2028. Scatec awarded project through tender. The project had already been announced before its components were presented to the governorate. On January 23, 2026, Scatec said it had secured a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with STEG for a 120 MW solar plant in Tataouine, following a tender launched by the Tunisian authorities. The investment is estimated at around €80 million and will be financed through a combination of equity and non-recourse debt. Scatec currently owns 100% of the project but plans to bring in partners at a later stage to reduce its stake. Financial close is expected in the first half of 2027. Scatec will also handle engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), covering around 80% of the project's capital expenditure, before taking responsibility for asset management as well as the plant's operation and maintenance. No equity partner has been announced for the Tataouine project so far. The Remada Ouest project is separate from the Sidi Bouzid II project, which is also being developed by Scatec, in partnership with Aeolus, a subsidiary of Japan's Toyota Tsusho. The Remada Ouest plant is part of Tunisia's broader objective of raising the share of renewable energy in national electricity generation to 35% by 2030.

The Norwegians at Scatec want to expand rapidly in Romania, where they are already developing several renewable energy projects - Bloomberg.

The Norwegians at Scatec want to expand rapidly in Romania, where they are already developing several renewable energy projects - Bloomberg. The Norwegian group Scatec ASA, one of the leading developers of renewable energy projects globally, intends to triple its global generation capacity by 2028, shifting its focus to Europe, where it sees strong demand for storage batteries, which opens new possibilities for the clean energy sector, Bloomberg reports, according to Agerpres. AGERPRES - Wednesday, September 9, 2026, 20:19 Scatec wants to reach a global energy production capacity of 11 gigawatts, from the three gigawatts currently active or under construction, CEO Terje Pilskog said in an interview with Bloomberg. Part of this growth will come from a "rapid expansion" in Romania and an increase in energy storage assets more broadly, Pilskog said. At the end of July, OX2 sold a 77 MW wind farm in Romania, at ready-to-build stage, to Scatec ASA. The Urleasca wind farm, located in southeastern Romania, will have 11 state-of-the-art Nordex N175/6.X MW turbines. Commissioning is planned for the second half of 2028. Also, in February the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced the allocation of 34 million euros to support the development of three photovoltaic parks in southwestern Romania, which will have a combined capacity of 190 megawatts (MW). The EIB support was granted to three Romanian solar energy companies, 65% owned by the Norwegian renewable energy developer Scatec ASA and 35% by Defic Globe BV. According to Terje Pilskog, Scatec is building wind, solar and energy storage projects in Romania with a combined capacity of about 350 MW, and production is estimated to start next year. Romania has become an attractive market for large-scale batteries, as the development of renewable projects puts pressure on the power grid. New renewable energy projects must be paired with storage facilities, which is driving investment in batteries. "We can now develop renewable energy projects that are very grid-friendly or that actually support the grid, and this is a completely new situation compared with what was happening just a few years ago," Pilskog said. Scatec's expansion in Europe is accompanied by new investments in emerging markets. Scatec estimates that within the next six months it will reach financial close for three large-scale projects in Egypt, with construction work to begin afterward.
