Bullitt County ATC Educator Recognized at IndyCar Weekend by Snap-on Tools and SkillsUSA.

Bullitt County ATC Educator Recognized at IndyCar Weekend by Snap-on Tools and SkillsUSA. Bullitt County Public Schools September 3, 2026 SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY - Jason Ryan, an automotive instructor at the Bullitt County Area Technology Center (ATC) and executive council member for SkillsUSA Kentucky, was honored in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during the Snap-on Makers and Fixers 250 IndyCar race weekend. As the weekend race sponsor, Snap-on Tools partnered with SkillsUSA to highlight educators and students inspiring the next generation of skilled technicians. When Snap-on asked SkillsUSA to nominate an outstanding educator to attend as their guest, the national organization selected Ryan for his innovative program development and impactful mentorship. At Bullitt County ATC, Ryan leads dynamic, authentic learning initiatives designed to mirror real-world industry operations. His students recently restored a 1985 Ford Thunderbird into a high-performance drag race car, expanding the curriculum into the racing industry. To further build professional habits, Ryan utilizes drag-strip time clocks to teach precise time management. This year, he is implementing TechMetric shop management software, training students to process work orders, track job times, manage consumables, and log technician notes just as a commercial facility would. To expand opportunities and attract new students to technical pathways, Ryan is also introducing a new dual-credit electrical course serving both the automotive and diesel tracks. "It is a big honor that SkillsUSA recognized our program," said Ryan, who also helps lead the SkillsUSA Kentucky State Officer team and annual state conference. "I was excited to represent Bullitt County Public Schools and our ATC at the national level." During the event at the Milwaukee Mile, Snap-on sponsored Ryan's trip, interviewed him regarding his curriculum, and showcased his program alongside national SkillsUSA student champions. Snap-on TRITON scan tool wins 2026 MOTOR Top 20 Award: what it signals for professional diagnostics.

Snap-on TRITON scan tool wins 2026 MOTOR Top 20 Award: what it signals for professional diagnostics. by James Mitchell on Sep 08, 2026 Snap-on Incorporated announced on September 2 that its TRITON scan tool has won a 2026 MOTOR Top 20 Award, recognizing it as one of the automotive aftermarket's most innovative and impactful solutions. The award, decided by online vote among industry professionals, puts a spotlight on the direction professional-grade diagnostics are taking in 2026. What the MOTOR Top 20 Award actually recognizes. The MOTOR Top 20 program surfaces what industry professionals consider the year's most valuable new tools and solutions, with winners selected by online voting rather than a single editorial panel. Snap-on's TRITON won for a specific combination of features rather than any single spec. The tool is built around wireless connectivity for a fast, reliable vehicle link, paired with Fast-Track Guided Component Tests - a code-based troubleshooting workflow Snap-on describes as a patented exclusive. Instead of dumping every possible test on the technician, it filters out complexity and presents one focused path from fault code to fixed. Underneath that workflow sits a repository Snap-on says is drawn from billions of repair records and hundreds of billions of diagnostic sessions. "Designed to streamline workflow, enhance efficiency and increase productivity on every repair, TRITON ensures technicians have what they need to get through the job at hand, taking them from start to fixed," said Helen Cox, marketing and client services director at Snap-on Diagnostics. The tool also carries manufacturer-level coverage for codes, data, and tests, plus a complete vehicle scan that identifies codes across every system in one pass. Consistent navigation and terminology across makes, advanced data graphing, and quick access to common specs and capacities round out the feature set. For independent shops, that feature list maps directly to the three things technicians repeatedly say they need from a professional diagnostic tool: faster vehicle identification, fewer dead ends in troubleshooting, and coverage that reaches past generic OBD-II codes into OEM systems. Why it matters for independent shops and technicians. The significance of the TRITON win for independent repair shops isn't that Snap-on won an award. It's what the award's criteria reveal about how the entire category is now being judged. Professional scan tools are no longer evaluated on read-speed or code coverage alone. The features that swayed voters - wireless connection, guided component tests, one-touch complete vehicle scan - are workflow features, not raw diagnostic depth. That shift changes the buying calculus for a shop. A tool that shaves five minutes off vehicle identification and points the technician at the correct component test on the first pass pays for itself in bay time, not on a spec sheet. For shops that can't justify a dealer-level platform, mid-range and pro-level alternatives have already converged on the same priorities. Modern diagnostic tablets and computers from brands like Autel and Launch now ship with guided troubleshooting, topology mapping, and full-system scanning as standard, bringing the TRITON's core workflow ideas to a much wider range of budgets. For a shop owner, the practical test is simple: time how long a new scanner takes to reach a confirmed diagnosis on a vehicle the shop already knows is broken. If a tool's guided workflow cuts that path from thirty minutes to ten on routine faults, it effectively recovers its cost through saved labor across a couple of months of daily use. That is why workflow efficiency - not a marginally deeper code library - has become the decisive purchase criterion in 2026. There is a clear competitive read here too. Snap-on's flagship tools sit at the premium end of the market, sold through franchise vans and dealer channels. The award reinforces that the differentiators buyers now care about - guided workflow and wireless convenience - are increasingly available from Autel's MaxiSYS family and Launch's X-431 line at lower price points. For an independent shop, that means the "premium" workflow is no longer locked behind a franchise-van price tag. What the TRITON win signals about scan tool design in 2026. The award is a useful benchmark for where the industry is heading over the next twelve months. Expect three threads to keep tightening. First, guided troubleshooting will keep replacing open-ended menu diving - the software proposes the likely test sequence and the technician confirms, which suits a younger technician workforce and reduces misdiagnosis. Second, wireless links will become the default rather than a differentiator, as cable-free connection removes a common failure point in busy bays. Third, the knowledge base behind the tool will matter as much as the hardware in front of it, as manufacturers compete on the size and quality of the repair-record data feeding their guidance engines. None of this is unique to Snap-on. It's a category-wide migration, and the MOTOR award simply names it. For a shop evaluating its next scanner purchase, the takeaway is concrete: judge the tool on how fast it gets you from "vehicle won't start" to a confirmed fix, not on the length of its brochure.

Silver Birch offers a full spectrum of personalized services to help older adults maintain their independence in a supportive, caring environment. For more information, visit Silver Birch of Kokomo online. Chariot Automotive Group (CAG) recently started the fourth year of Automotive Technician Education Pathway (ATEP), its educational program for high school students. This year's cohort consists of 45 students, and the program offers three classes, including two first year classes, one second year class at Academy and one second year class at Ivy Tech Kokomo. "Over the past four years, we have seen 150 students from 13 different schools through the ATEP program," said Rex Gingerich, CEO of Chariot Automotive Group. "We are excited to expand the program by offering another class at Button, creating more opportunities to give students a sense of direction and purpose for what's next in their career journey." The ATEP program allows high school juniors and seniors to participate in hands-on training while earning college credit - at no cost to them - toward an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology at Ivy Tech Community College. During the course, students spend the first hour in the classroom learning concepts crucial for effective automotive technicians, followed by two hours in the lab implementing teachings through hands-on training. Employment of automotive technicians and mechanics is projected to grow by 70,000 openings each year on average over the next decade, making the ATEP program critical to local workforce growth. Through the program, graduates are able to build careers that last long beyond a first job. "The most valuable part of the program is learning inside an active dealership," said Owen Montgomery, current ATEP student and service advisor at Chariot Automotive Group. "Being surrounded by employees and seeing the workflow firsthand provides a real-world experience that a traditional classroom simply can't replicate." After completing the program, students may be offered a full-time automotive technician position at one of CAG's four dealership locations. Additionally, the high school curriculum credits can be applied toward the Chariot Automotive Institute apprenticeship program, which is the only Indiana Department of Labor-accredited automotive technician program in the state. Chariot Automotive Institute has also collaborated with Snap-On to increase the value of ATEP program students' annual tool voucher. Chariot Automotive Group's Academy Dealership is the flagship location for the ATEP program and recently celebrated its fifth anniversary in business.
