Pediatric Dental Assistant
About the job
- Dental assisting experience is required; candidates without prior dental experience will not be considered.
- The position is full time, requiring a minimum of 38–40 hours per week.
- Attention to detail and multitasking ability are required.
- Candidates should have a positive attitude, enjoy working with children, and be customer-service oriented.
- Prepare and arrange the tools and instruments needed for scheduled procedures.
- Hand necessary tools and equipment to the dentist and assist during treatment.
- Perform prophylaxis and administer fluoride treatments.
- Record findings, change barriers, and sterilize equipment.
- Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays).
- Ask patients about their medical history.
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
- Provide patients with instructions for oral care and dental treatment procedures, such as placement of a restoration (filling).
- Teach patients oral hygiene strategies, including tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling.
- Take impressions of patients’ teeth for study casts (models of teeth).
- Perform office-management tasks that often require use of a personal computer.
- Communicate with patients and suppliers, including scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, billing, and ordering supplies.
- Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Orthodontic experience is a plus.
