About the Job

Requirements

  • A Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a similar field.
  • Exceptional knowledge of thermodynamics, rocket motor system architecture, and subsystem interactions.
  • Knowledge of measurement technology and stochastic analysis, including uncertainty quantification and propagation.
  • A fundamental understanding of combustion, thrust chambers, valves, and turbopump systems.
  • Proven experience developing and validating empirical, semi-empirical, or analytical models and setting up cycle models of complex fluid systems or machinery.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Willingness to travel to support engine test campaigns and launch campaigns abroad.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain modular engine models for existing engines, fluid systems, and conceptual engines in development to predict engine load points and support performance studies.
  • Coordinate with product owners, ensure every engine subcomponent is characterized in the model, and maintain the component performance database.
  • Provide load point predictions during development and test campaigns, and define engine-performance acceptance criteria for flight engines and qualification tests.
  • Develop tools for engine load point predictions to increase acceptance-testing cadence, and build and maintain the component characterization database.
  • Serve as the point of contact for engine performance metrics provided to flight software and Guidance, Navigation, and Control, and conduct uncertainty quantification for those metrics.
  • Maintain databases of characteristic parameters such as specific impulse and mass flow, as well as lookup tables for engine transients.
  • Maintain secondary engine models relevant to rocket kinematics throughout all mission phases, including thrust generated by chill-down bleed flows and purges.
  • Conduct conceptual engine performance studies during early development of future launch systems or iterations of Spectrum.
  • Ensure consistent data acquisition quality for engine performance parameters during development testing, stage testing, and flight.
  • Define sensor requirements for in-flight engine performance verification.
  • Elaborate uncertainty propagation across the entire measurement chain with test-rig staff to maintain high data quality.

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional work experience in rocket propulsion development.
  • Working experience with Simulink or cycle model development for rocket or aircraft engines, or similar.

About the Company

Isar Aerospace

Develops, manufactures, launches Spectrum rockets

Isar Aerospace designs, builds, and operates the Spectrum two-stage rocket for small to medium satellites. It vertically integrates design, production, and testing, running a high-automation factory near Munich and a dedicated launch pad at Andøya, with a planned site in Canada. A €270 million Series D in June 2026 will expand its global launch network, scale Spectrum production, and establish sovereign access-to-space capacity for Europe and NATO. Its goal is to provide reliable, repeatable launches at scale within a European, NATO-aligned launch infrastructure.
