About the job
- A high school diploma is required.
- Three years of mechanical maintenance experience with absorption/freon air-conditioning equipment and steam-related heating systems are required.
- Strong knowledge and skills in mechanical systems are required.
- Intermediate knowledge and skills in electrical and plumbing systems are required.
- Working knowledge and skills of the refrigeration cycle, common parts, and pneumatic, electric, and electronic control systems are required.
- Basic knowledge and skills in brazing, soldering, insulation, measuring, carpentry, and sheet metal are required.
- Basic knowledge of safety standards and regulations, current chlorofluorocarbon regulations, physics, and mathematics is required.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and nameplates is required.
- A New York City Refrigeration Engineer's license and Environmental Protection Agency chlorofluorocarbon Universal certification are required.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions is required.
- Perform hands-on maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems and related auxiliary equipment.
- Work the Friday-through-Tuesday, 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. shift, starting Friday at 11:00 p.m.
- Some college education in engineering is preferred.
- Completion certificate from a recognized trade school is preferred.
- Familiarity with personal computers is preferred.
- Good communication skills are preferred.
