Requirements
  • The candidate must have at least 2 years of relevant clinical or facilitation experience, ideally running support groups in a behavioral health, cardiopulmonary, or chronic disease setting.
  • The candidate must be a licensed clinical social worker, licensed professional counselor, or another mental health professional.
  • The candidate must have a Master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related mental health field.
  • The candidate must be proficient with mobile technology, including guiding patients through digital health programs and troubleshooting wearable and tablet technology issues.
  • The candidate must have the ability to create and adhere to repeatable processes while working diligently and staying organized.
  • The candidate must be able to work with little direction in a high-growth, early-stage startup.
  • The candidate must be able to maintain a basic understanding of all four program element guidelines: nutrition, stress management, group support, and exercise.
Responsibilities
  • Lead group support sessions for cardiac rehabilitation patients according to clinical protocols.
  • Deliver high-quality care to patients participating in the cardiac rehabilitation program and clinical studies.
  • Provide education during Lifestyle Classes and respond to patients' technical issues.
  • Work directly with the founders to innovate and improve the digital care delivery model.
  • Support patients by empowering them to remain accountable and take ownership of their rehabilitation.
  • Work collaboratively with the technology team to provide a smooth experience for patients and clients.
  • Participate actively in a collaborative, transdisciplinary team approach as a catalyst for healing and patient connection.
  • Create and maintain an emotionally safe virtual environment using active listening, mindful session pacing, and conflict de-escalation skills.
  • Lead feelings-based group processes using compassionate, motivational communication; help patients distinguish thoughts from feelings or emotions, become comfortable expressing feelings, and listen with empathy.
  • Educate participants about the medical value of group support in reducing social loneliness and isolation.
  • Teach participants how social support works synergistically with nutrition, stress management, and physical activity to address drivers of cardiovascular disease.
  • Support patients with the five core Ornish Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation stress-management techniques: gentle postures, mindful breathing, progressive relaxation, healing imagery, and meditation.
  • Reinforce the physiological effects of stress on blood pressure, heart rate, angina or chest pain, blood-vessel spasms, clot formation, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels.
  • Maintain a basic understanding of the very-low-fat, low-sugar, whole-foods plant-based nutrition guidelines and their role in disease reversal to support holistic patient education.
  • Maintain a basic understanding of the benefits of regular exercise and its effects on physical and mental health.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience delivering Dean Ornish's Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation or Ornish Lifestyle Medicine program.
  • Experience running support groups.
  • Registered Yoga Teacher certification or other stress-management or mind-body training and experience.
  • Registered Dietitian certification or nutrition-education training, such as a Master's in Nutrition Science, with related experience.
  • Training and experience with a low-fat whole-foods plant-based nutrition plan.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Experience participating in clinical trials or healthcare research studies.
  • Previous remote-work or telehealth experience.
  • Training and experience in education and health coaching.
