About the company

Elucid Bioimaging provides an AI-powered SaaS platform that helps clinicians assess cardiovascular disease. Its PlaqueIQ tool non-invasively analyzes coronary CT angiography to create a 3D model of arteries and quantify plaque, including high-risk features like lipid-rich necrotic cores, with the AI trained on paired imaging and histology data. The product is regulated, with FDA clearance and CE marking, and it distinguishes itself by grounding its analysis in histology-based references rather than simple image features. The company aims to expand commercialization in North America and Europe to support precision cardiology, preventive treatment, and reduced cardiovascular events.

What believers are saying

  • September 2, 2026 Series D raised $55 million, lifting total funding to $185 million.
  • Mark Miller joined September 29, 2026 as CRO before BioIntegrated FFR-CT launch.
  • AI-PREDICT enrolled patients July 9, 2026, expanding clinical evidence for lesion-centric risk.

What critics are saying

  • BioIntegrated FFR-CT still sits under FDA 510(k) review, blocking revenue until clearance.
  • Heartflow already owns entrenched FFRCT reimbursement, guidelines, and commercial relationships.
  • One failed pivotal study or adverse FDA decision would strand Elucid as a plaque niche vendor.

What makes Elucid unique

  • Plaque-IQ is validated against ground-truth histology, not visual proxy scoring.
  • Elucid combines Plaque-IQ, BioIntegrated FFR-CT, and lesion-level reporting in one workflow.
  • CPT 75577 and 2026 CMS payment accelerate adoption in imaging centers.

Elucid wins FDA clearance for FFR-IQ, with 92.2% sensitivity in noninvasive heart scans

Elucid, a Boston-based maker of AI-powered cardiovascular imaging software, has won US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for FFR-IQ. The software estimates fractional flow reserve (FFR) from coronary CT angiography without invasive tests. FFR-IQ uses coronary anatomy and plaque composition in its estimate. Elucid says this can help physicians identify which patients need invasive evaluation and avoid most unnecessary catheterisations. The ELUCIDATE FFR-CT study, which supported the clearance, showed sensitivity of 92.2% and specificity of 93.1%. Elucid says these are the highest of any FFR-CT validation study. The company will present the results at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference in San Diego on November 1.

Elucid hires Mark Miller as CRO ahead of BioIntegrated FFR-CT launch

Elucid, a Boston-based medical technology company developing AI-powered cardiovascular diagnostics software, has appointed Mark Miller as chief revenue officer. Miller will lead the company's commercial expansion ahead of the anticipated FDA clearance of its BioIntegrated FFR-CT software. Miller brings over 25 years of experience in cardiovascular imaging and diagnostics sales. He previously spent a decade at GE Healthcare and Philips, and served as vice president of sales at Cassling, where he led a commercial team of more than 40 professionals. Elucid's platform includes its FDA-cleared Plaque-IQ software and the pending BioIntegrated FFR-CT solution, which helps physicians identify coronary blockages non-invasively. The company focuses on advancing precision diagnosis of cardiovascular disease through AI-enabled image analysis.

Elucid raises $55M in Series D to commercialise AI-powered cardiovascular imaging platform

Elucid, a Boston-based medical technology company, has raised $55 million in an oversubscribed Series D financing round, bringing its total funding to approximately $185 million. The round includes participation from a large medtech company, joining as Elucid's fourth publicly traded strategic investor, alongside IAG Capital Partners and Elevage Medical Technologies. The funding will accelerate commercialisation of Elucid's AI-powered cardiovascular imaging platform. The company is preparing for full commercial launch of its BioIntegrated FFR-CT product, currently under FDA review, alongside its FDA-cleared Plaque-IQ software. Elucid's technology converts routine CT angiography into detailed insights based on plaque biology, vessel anatomy, and physiology, helping clinicians stratify at-risk patients and personalise treatment strategies for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Elucid launches lesion inspection tool for coronary and carotid plaque analysis

Elucid has launched a new Lesion Inspection Tool for its Plaque-IQ software suite, enabling physicians to analyse coronary and carotid plaque composition at the lesion level. The tool provides detailed quantification of plaque types, including high-risk features like lipid-rich necrotic core, supporting more precise clinical decision-making. The Boston-based AI medical technology company's Plaque-IQ is the only plaque analysis technology validated against histology, the gold standard for plaque characterisation. Powered by CT-Virtual Histology, it noninvasively quantifies and classifies coronary and carotid plaque using CTA scans. The tool allows physicians to interrogate any lesion or region and access quantitative results for specific segments, helping identify features associated with heart attack and stroke risk.
