Sonos, Turtle Beach, Helen of Troy: stocks that could gain from lower US-China tariffs

The US-China trade truce now runs to January 2027, and talk of reciprocal tariff cuts on billions of dollars of goods has put import-heavy consumer electronics brands back in focus. Three US-listed stocks stand out. Sonos, with a market cap of $2.10 billion, makes premium speakers and soundbars. It earns about $1.49 billion from audio and video products, including roughly $881 million in the US. Tariffs on goods made in Vietnam and Malaysia may force price rises that could hurt sales. Turtle Beach, valued at $260 million, sells gaming headsets made in Asia. Its Q2 2026 revenue of $56.4 million was flat year over year, despite new premium products. Helen of Troy, worth $651 million, sells home, beauty and wellness goods that rely on imported components. Lower duties could cut its costs.

Helen of Troy stock trades at 6.8x earnings after an 89% fall from its peak, but turnaround hopes grow

Helen of Troy (HELE), parent of OXO kitchen gadgets, reported better-than-expected fiscal second-quarter 2027 earnings on October 8. Revenue rose 2.1% to $440.9 million, led by a 9.2% rise in Home and Outdoor, while Beauty and Wellness fell 4.5%. The stock has more than doubled in seven months from a 10-year low of $13.85, yet it is down 89% from its January 2021 peak of $265.97. It trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 6.81, against a 10-year average of 13.48. Margins remain weak after $886 million in impairment charges last year. Net debt is $649.2 million, about equal to its market value. Management now expects adjusted earnings of $3.88 a share in 2027, up from $3.50, with tariff refunds supplying nearly 10% of that. Analysts' average target price is $30.50, about $2.50 above the current share price.

PepsiCo beats Q3 estimates as jobless claims hit post-Covid low

US weekly jobless claims fell to 197,000, marking the fourth consecutive week below 200,000 and the lowest post-pandemic level. Continuing claims rose slightly to 1.716 million from a revised 1.699 million. The figures demonstrate strength in the labour market despite flat monthly jobs data, suggesting a "low hire/low fire" environment. September's jobs report showed only 29,000 positions added. The steady employment picture supports the Federal Reserve's decision to hold interest rates at 3.75-4.00%, despite inflation at 3.4% remaining above target levels. PepsiCo exceeded Q3 expectations with earnings of $2.34 per share on revenues of $25.27 billion. Helen of Troy reported fiscal Q2 earnings of $0.79 per share, beating estimates of $0.51 by 54.9%.
