JetBlue adds a second daily nonstop to Cali: fares from $139 out of Fort Lauderdale.

JetBlue adds a second daily nonstop to Cali: fares from $139 out of Fort Lauderdale. JetBlue's entry challenges Avianca's monopoly on the Fort Lauderdale-Cali nonstop, with introductory one-way fares from $139. Published: Oct 16 2026, 9:40 PM EDT JetBlue launched daily nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Cali, Colombia's Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport (CLO) on October 15, 2026, giving South Florida travelers a second direct option on a route where Avianca has flown without a U.S. competitor since July. Introductory one-way fares start at $139 for November departures on jetblue.com, before bag fees. Avianca began its own daily FLL-CLO nonstop in July 2026, three months before JetBlue entered. JetBlue's arrival turns the route into a two-carrier competition, which typically compresses fares. Spirit Airlines previously served Fort Lauderdale to Cali before the carrier exited the market, leaving South Florida Colombia travelers with fewer direct choices until Avianca moved in. Why Cali is getting two nonstops from Fort Lauderdale. Cali, Colombia's third-largest city with a population of approximately 2.28 million, has historically been harder to reach from the United States than Medellín or Bogotá. Before 2026, U.S. travelers from South Florida typically connected through a hub or booked into a different Colombian city. The FLL-CLO route addresses that gap: Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport is Colombia's third-busiest by passengers and operates around the clock. The airport is located near Palmira, outside the city, so travelers arriving in Cali should budget additional time and ground transportation to reach the city center. JetBlue's October timing also positions it for Cali's biggest travel window. The city's annual Feria de Cali opens December 25, anchored by the Salsódromo - a mass dance parade that draws international visitors to what Cali calls its identity as the world's salsa capital. Booking now for the Feria's late-December dates puts travelers ahead of the holiday surge. What jetblue charges - and what that includes. Introductory one-way fares from Fort Lauderdale to Cali start at US$139 for November departures, according to fare data checked October 13, 2026 on JetBlue's website. The reverse fare, Cali to Fort Lauderdale, starts at US$246 one-way. Both figures are base fares and exclude checked-bag fees; JetBlue charges separately for bags on its lowest-priced Blue fares. Departure times for the route had not been officially confirmed as of mid-October. Book through jetblue.com or the JetBlue app, searching FLL to CLO. Does jetblue fly to Colombia? More than you may know. The Cali route makes Fort Lauderdale JetBlue's fourth Colombian city. The airline already operates daily FLL nonstops to Medellín, Cartagena, and Barranquilla - the last launched October 1, 2026, just two weeks ahead of Cali. The Colombia expansion is part of JetBlue's largest-ever Fort Lauderdale schedule, which now includes more than 125 daily departures to over 55 nonstop destinations - up more than 75 percent from the same period a year ago. Since December 2025, JetBlue has added 24 new nonstop destinations from FLL. "Fort Lauderdale has always been part of JetBlue's DNA and a cornerstone of our network," CEO Joanna Geraghty said at the schedule's July announcement. What the State Department says about flying into Cali. Travelers should read the U.S. State Department's Colombia travel advisory before booking. As of the advisory's most recent update - March 31, 2026 - Colombia carries a Level 3 rating: Reconsider Travel. Risks cited include crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and kidnapping. The Valle del Cauca department, which surrounds Cali, carries a Level 4 Do Not Travel rating - but the advisory explicitly excludes Cali from that higher restriction. U.S. government employees are permitted to visit Cali only with special authorization. The advisory also carries a specific warning about dating apps across Colombia: "Many U.S. citizens in Colombia have been drugged, robbed, and even killed by Colombian criminals posing as dates," according to the State Department, which advises travelers to meet new contacts in public places, watch their drinks being prepared, and share details of any planned meeting with a trusted contact. Cali ranks relatively high among Colombian cities in ongoing security concerns. Travel Off Path's safety index gives the city a score of 45 out of 100. How to fly from Fort Lauderdale to Cali, Colombia. JetBlue operates one daily nonstop between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport (IATA: CLO) near Cali. Book at jetblue.com or through the JetBlue app. As of mid-October 2026, introductory one-way fares start at US$139 from FLL (November departures, before bag fees), with reverse fares from US$246. Alfonso Bonilla Aragón Airport is situated between the city of Cali and the municipality of Palmira in the Cauca River valley. It operates 24 hours a day and is managed by Aerocivil, Colombia's civil aviation authority, which has run the airport since September 2025. Travelers should arrange ground transportation in advance; rideshare apps and regulated taxi services are available at the airport, but the State Department advises against hailing street taxis in Colombia due to documented robbery risks. For travelers arriving near year-end, Cali sits just one hour behind Fort Lauderdale until U.S. clocks fall back on November 1; after that date, both cities share the same time until March. JetBlue celebrates 20 years of New York-Aruba nonstop flights with special airfares and holiday package discounts. Oct 16, 2026 6 mins to read JetBlue and Aruba Tourism Authority are celebrating 20 years of nonstop connections between New York and Aruba. They are also promoting a partnership and convenient travel for American tourists to the Caribbean destination. This year's anniversary was held on 15 October 2026, and special offers for holidays and fares were organized. There are flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) to highlight the event. Two decades of air connectivity strengthen Aruba's Tourism Industry. JetBlue's 20th anniversary on the New York-Aruba route represents an important milestone for the Caribbean destination's international tourism sector. Since introducing nonstop services between the two airports, the airline has provided travellers with a direct connection to Aruba, helping support the island's accessibility from one of the United States' major aviation markets. The anniversary reflects the continuing importance of airline partnerships in maintaining international visitor flows and supporting tourism-dependent destinations. Special anniversary celebrations welcome passengers travelling to Aruba. To commemorate the occasion, JetBlue and the Aruba Tourism Authority organised special activities for passengers departing New York on 15 October. The celebrations were designed to recognise the airline's longstanding relationship with Aruba while introducing passengers to the destination's approach to responsible tourism. Aruba Promise encourages responsible and sustainable tourism. A central feature of the anniversary celebrations was the Aruba Promise, a tourism initiative encouraging visitors to respect the island's environment, communities and cultural identity. Rather than viewing tourists simply as temporary visitors, the initiative encourages travellers to approach their stay as guests who share responsibility for protecting the destination. Supported by Aruba's Guest Guidelines, the programme promotes environmentally conscious behaviour, appreciation of local traditions and consideration for the island's natural resources. The initiative also encourages visitors to embrace a more relaxed pace of travel while recognising the importance of preserving Aruba's beaches, landscapes and cultural heritage. Travel guides Discover more MICE Travel Advisor By incorporating responsible tourism messaging into the anniversary activities, Aruba's tourism authorities reinforced the importance of balancing visitor growth with long-term destination sustainability. JetBlue expands Aruba connectivity beyond New York. Although the anniversary focuses on the New York-Aruba route, JetBlue's network serving the Caribbean island now extends to additional American departure points. The airline also operates nonstop services to Aruba from Boston and Fort Lauderdale, offering travellers more options when planning their Caribbean holidays. These connections provide access to Aruba from different parts of the United States and support the destination's wider tourism market. For Aruba, maintaining air services from major American cities remains important for attracting international visitors and sustaining the island's tourism economy. The expanded network also enables JetBlue to serve passengers travelling for leisure, family holidays and other purposes. JetBlue announces special Aruba airfares starting at $139. As part of the anniversary celebrations, JetBlue introduced promotional one-way fares on selected routes to Aruba. The advertised offers include flights from New York and Fort Lauderdale, providing travellers with opportunities to explore the Caribbean destination at promotional prices. The promotional prices are starting fares and may vary according to availability, travel dates and applicable booking conditions. Travellers considering these offers should review the airline's fare rules, baggage allowances and additional charges before confirming their reservations. The anniversary promotion creates another opportunity for JetBlue to generate interest in Aruba among American travellers planning Caribbean getaways. JetBlue Vacations offers up to $550 off Aruba holiday packages. Alongside its airfare promotions, JetBlue Vacations has introduced a limited-time offer providing savings of up to US$550 on eligible Aruba holiday packages. The promotion combines the airline's travel services with holiday booking opportunities, allowing customers to explore package arrangements for the Caribbean island. Key booking details The extended travel period provides eligible customers with flexibility when arranging future holidays, including trips scheduled well into 2027. However, the maximum discount is not guaranteed for every booking. Savings depend on the package selected and whether the reservation meets the promotion's eligibility requirements. Inflight services enhance the New York-Aruba travel experience. JetBlue continues to position its Aruba services around passenger comfort and onboard entertainment. The airline's flights feature complimentary high-speed Fly-Fi internet connectivity, enabling passengers to stay connected during their journeys. Seatback entertainment systems also provide access to live television, while complimentary snacks and drinks form part of the airline's onboard offering. These services are particularly relevant to leisure passengers travelling between the United States and the Caribbean, where comfort and convenience can influence airline selection. JetBlue's combination of nonstop connectivity and onboard amenities supports its continued presence in the competitive Caribbean aviation market. Anniversary highlights Aruba's growing focus on long-term tourism partnerships. The 20-year milestone demonstrates the value of sustained cooperation between airlines and destination tourism organisations. For Aruba, reliable international air connections are essential to maintaining accessibility and encouraging repeat travel from established visitor markets. The partnership with JetBlue also provides a platform for promoting the island's tourism experiences, cultural identity and responsible travel initiatives. By combining anniversary celebrations with promotional fares and holiday discounts, the airline and tourism authority are seeking to reinforce Aruba's appeal among American holidaymakers. What travellers should know before booking Aruba flights. Travellers planning a trip to Aruba can consider JetBlue's nonstop connections from New York, Boston and Fort Lauderdale when comparing flight options. Passengers interested in the anniversary fares should check current availability and confirm whether the advertised starting prices apply to their preferred departure dates. Those considering JetBlue Vacations packages should pay particular attention to the 21 October 2026 booking deadline, the 17 September 2027 travel deadline and the minimum spending conditions. Travellers should also check passport validity, applicable entry requirements and Aruba's current visitor procedures before departure. JetBlue and Aruba look towards the next chapter of Caribbean travel. Twenty years after the introduction of nonstop flights between New York and Aruba, the route remains an established connection between the United States and the Caribbean island. The anniversary celebrations highlight more than an aviation milestone, bringing attention to the role of direct air services in supporting tourism, strengthening destination partnerships and improving travel accessibility. With additional connections from Boston and Fort Lauderdale, promotional fares and limited-time holiday discounts, JetBlue is seeking to make Aruba a popular destination for a Caribbean getaway. The milestone also serves as a chance for the island to promote and attract conscientious tourists while at the same time not putting off potential visitors.

Europe's largest airline wants predictive AI models to nip airport meltdowns in the bud.

Europe's largest airline wants predictive AI models to nip airport meltdowns in the bud. Ryanair's CEO tells CNET that advanced planning tools will mean a better experience for travelers. Reporter II Macy is a writer on the AI Team... Read full bio October 15, 2026, 9:49 am ET If there's one thing that's unifying across the world, it's that Etoetechnologies can all agree that a canceled or delayed flight is a massive headache at best. Ryanair - the largest airline in Europe by fleet size, global passenger volume and total flights, and the second-largest airline in the world by global passenger volume - has implemented proprietary predictive AI models to help prevent airline disruptions before they lead to widespread cancellations or diversions. The AI models were developed by Ryanair Labs, the Ireland-based airline's tech innovation hub launched in 2014, to more quickly and efficiently predict when weather delays, airport curfews and issues with airline crew hours are likely to disrupt passengers' journeys. I spoke with Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson at the Version 1 media briefing hosted by Enterprise Ireland, the governmental economic development agency, before the International AI Summit in Dublin to discuss how the airline is using these AI models. The goal, Wilson said, is not to replace Ryanair's core of human operators, but to give his employees advanced tools to manage and handle operational complexities across Ryanair's 96 operational bases and its more than 3,800 flights per day. "And that, by making us efficient," he said, "translates into lower fares, better operational performance - same boring, virtuous circle, you know, 'cause that's what the airline industry is like." Predictive models in practice. Wilson said there are a lot of variables in making sure a plane is in the right place, at the right time: weather, an airplane going out of service, an airport closing to meet curfews, staff and crew showing up. For instance, say a crew on a plane is about to exceed the hours they're allowed to work due to a weather delay and they're not going to make it back to their base, yet are scheduled to work the next day. The Ryanair model is designed to recognize the disruptions this will cause and to take appropriate action. "If you know they're not going to be able to do the flights the next day, there's no point in waiting for them to come back the next morning for them to tell you that they're out of hours," Wilson said. "But if the model is running, it reassigns somebody else to do it, or it may just reassign them to do a flight later the next day, and you pair up the crew in a different way, that's all." AI is starting to take a larger role in airline and airport operations. In September, the Federal Aviation Administration rolled out a trial program for a new system, Strategic Management of Airspace Routes and Trajectories, around Washington, DC, airports, to use AI to mitigate delays and congestion caused by air traffic control staffing shortages. Some carriers, like American Airlines, are now using AI for flight rebooking, while others, like United, Delta and JetBlue, have partnered with third-party weather predictors, such as Tomorrow.io, to use AI systems to address route or delay issues and quickly calculate solutions. The future of AI in airline operations. Looking ahead, Wilson said he thinks the next major impact AI will have on airlines is in distributing flights. Specifically, as more people adopt personal AI agents - like OpenAI Dots or Meta's Muse, both introduced just in the last few weeks - he's thinking about whether a customer tells an agent "book me a flight" and the potential negative, costly impact that the agent books a more expensive flight due to an airline paying to be prioritized by that AI model. Ultimately, though, Wilson doesn't suspect that AI is drastically changing the airline industry - at least not rapidly. "Everything changes and nothing changes, right?" he said. Wilson says that Ryanair's strategy will be to find "the killer applications" of AI to better serve customers and gain a competitive edge, but, really, the humans who "execute the real stuff in flight" are the key to smooth operations. "The actual nuts and bolts of our industry won't change," Wilson said. "In the AI world that's coming, we just see this as a new set of tools for fine-tuning work processes and efficiencies in doing the core model of what we've been successful at."
