Equip Expo 2026: it's the year of the stand-on machine. Stand-on equipment steals the spotlight at Equip Expo 2026, as manufacturers showcase new mowers, blowers, aerators, and more in Louisville. Published: October 22, 2026 at 5:30 PM ET Last year, you couldn't walk through Equip Expo without running into a robotic or autonomous mower. This year? You might want to watch where you're standing, because just about everything seems to have a platform for an operator to stand on. After day one and two of Equip Expo 2026 in Louisville, one trend is hard to miss. Stand-on equipment is everywhere. And Hortimpressions is not just talking about mowers anymore. Manufacturers are bringing the stand-on concept to aerators, sprayers, spreaders, blowers, snow removal equipment, and more. Standing room only. Stand-on mowers certainly aren't new, but their popularity has helped pave the way for an expanding lineup of equipment. Compact footprints, maneuverability, operator visibility, and the ability to quickly step on and off make these machines attractive for commercial crews tackling multiple properties and tasks throughout the day. Toro is expanding its stand-on lineup with the new AeroMaster turbine blower, designed for large-scale debris cleanup, and an updated GrandStand HDM+ mower. Available in 32" and 36" cutting widths, the redesigned mower focuses on maneuverability and easier maintenance access for crews working in tighter spaces. Z Turf Equipment is also getting in on the stand-on blower action with its new Z-Turbo, a zero-turn machine delivering up to 9,600 CFM of airflow. Its turbine-style blower and 180-degree adjustable nozzle are designed for everything from leaf cleanup to light snow removal, with clear sight lines that help operators keep an eye on the job. More than just mowing. John Deere is also getting in on the stand-on action, introducing new sprayer-spreaders that combine liquid and granular applications, along with an aerator that can aerate and overseed in a single pass. Both bring the stand-on format to turf care services beyond mowing. And apparently, standing isn't just for mowing season. Deere also showcased a stand-on sidewalk snow machine with plowing and ice control capabilities, plus two utility track loaders designed for landscape installation and construction work. Because why sit when you can stand? Why all the standing around? With labor challenges and pressure to improve productivity, manufacturers are finding ways to help crews accomplish more with less fatigue and greater versatility. Stand-on machines offer advantages for contractors navigating tight spaces, frequently hopping on and off equipment, or simply wanting a better view of the property they're maintaining. But bigger isn't always better. Or maybe it is, depending on who you ask. As one industry veteran pointed out, equipment trends tend to move in cycles, typically centered around a mid-size "sweet spot." This year, however, contractors seem to want one of two extremes: bigger machines with more muscle or smaller, more compact equipment for tighter spaces. And while robots and autonomous mowers stole the spotlight last year, operators seem eager to get back behind the controls. They still want efficiency and technology, but they also want visibility, maneuverability, and a hands-on feel for what's happening on the job. Maybe it's time to step back onto the platform and take the reins again. One thing's for sure: At Equip Expo 2026, the stand-on machine is having its moment. CASE 821G enhanced wheel loader delivers 230-hp FPT power and highest retained value in its class. Oct 22, 2026. CASE Construction Equipment continues to position the 821G as the anchor of its G-Series large wheel loader lineup - a 40,057-pound operating-weight machine powered by an FPT (Fiat Powertrain Technologies) diesel engine delivering 230 horsepower, paired with an electro-hydraulic control architecture and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions technology that increases fuel efficiency, keeps exhaust temperatures down, and eliminates regeneration costs and lifetime diesel particulate filter (DPF) maintenance. The 821G delivers brawny breakout forces and fast site travel - with a top travel speed of up to 25 mph - positioning it for work ranging from supply yards and building construction through to quarries and mass excavation. The machine's defining engineering feature is the "Z-Bar loader linkage" - CASE's proven geometry that delivers a strong parallel lift characteristic throughout the boom's range, keeping the bucket angle constant as the arms lift, reducing material spillage during truck loading, and improving load retention when traveling across uneven ground. Combined with a "single control for lift and tilt" that integrates both functions into one intuitive lever (with optional joystick steering for a secondary control layer), the 821G reduces operator hand movement between controls during the repetitive load-and-carry cycles that dominate wheel-loader duty cycles. Standard automated functions include "positive hold float" for ground-following dozing work, "automatic return-to-dig" that returns the bucket to the dig position after a dump, "automatic height control" that stops the bucket at a preset lifting height, and "automatic return-to-travel" that repositions the loader for driving between work zones. The 821G's cycle-time performance is among the best in its class - with 6.2 seconds raise with rated bucket load, 1.2 seconds dump, and 2.5 seconds float-down - supported by hydraulic cylinders including a 5.5-inch-bore lift cylinder and a 6.5-inch-bore dump cylinder. The operator environment is among the most intuitive CASE has ever produced, with a spacious cab, advanced HVAC, touchscreen display, and programmable buttons for custom function assignments, delivering an in-cab sound level of 68 dB(A) and a smooth, precise response from the machine's advanced electro-hydraulic system. Combined with optional packages optimized for waste/scrap, agriculture, and snow-removal applications, and CASE's documented position as the wheel loader with the highest retained value in its class, the 821G positions itself as a direct competitor to the Caterpillar 950M, Komatsu WA380-8, Volvo L110, and John Deere 644 in the global large wheel loader segment.
Smithfield Tractors to end John Deere franchise after 30 years of service. 20 Oct 2026 Builth Wells-based Smithfield Tractors is to end its franchise with John Deere, three decades after it began working with the manufacturer. Two existing dealers - Charlies Ag and Turf, and Tallis Amos Group - are to expand their areas of responsibility to support Smithfield's existing customer base. Dealer Principal Tim Hughes stepped up to take over from his father, Mike, in 1996 when the company was awarded the sales territory in mid-Wales, and has managed the relationship with John Deere ever since. Smithfield Tractors will continue to operate a complete sales and service offering for its remaining franchises, but Tim says the time is right for the next chapter after 30 extremely successful years. "Looking back, there's been a lot of change during our time selling green and yellow machines," says Tim. "They have become higher specification and continue to be able to do more, which is what my customers have demanded. "Features such as AutoTrac GPS guidance are very popular, even in our area where many of our customers are small, family enterprises or hill farms. They see the value of it to their bottom line." Smithfield mostly operates within a 30-mile radius of its depot. Tim has formed a strong bond with customers who have been loyal for many years, thanks to the support of his 12 employees. "We're looking for repeat business so we try to give customers a good service and backup and we see our customers keep coming back." Three members of Tim's staff have worked at the dealership for the entire duration of the John Deere franchise. Gwyn Dobbs, Mark Hammond and Trevor Williams have been at the company for more than 30 years, with Gwyn and Mark having worked there for 40. The pair received awards from the Royal Welsh Show Society for their long service to agriculture in July. "I want to thank my team for their hard work, dedication, and high standards," says Tim. "I also want to thank our customers for their continued loyal business over the past three decades. I have no doubt that John Deere's high standards will continue with Tallis Amos Group and Charlies Ag and Turf." John Deere Division Sales Manager Will McKnight thanked Smithfield Tractors for their tireless work supporting John Deere's customers. "We are extremely grateful for the loyalty and service Tim and has team has shown during its time working with John Deere," he said. Ben Tallis, Managing Director of Tallis Amos Group, said: "Tim and his team have done a fantastic job over a long period of time, so we have big boots to fill. But we are really looking forward to working with Smithfield Tractors during the transition into our new area of responsibility." Ross Holloway, Dealer Principle at Charlies Ag & Turf, added: "Farming wish Tim and his dedicated work force well with the next chapter. Farming is looking forward to providing the same quality of service, sales, and parts as Smithfield tractors has done for the past 30 years. The Smithfield Tractors franchise with John Deere will end on 31 October.
