Five AI infrastructure stocks to hold to 2030, from Marvell to Oracle's $664B backlog

Motley Fool contributor Matt Frankel picked five stocks that cover different layers of the AI build-out, arguing that data centres need more than chips and models. His list: Marvell Technology, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Forgent Power Solutions, Oracle, and Brookfield Corporation. Marvell's data centre revenue grew 46% last quarter, and it has agreed to acquire Lumentum. AMD's revenue rose 50%, and it agreed to buy World Labs for $8.2 billion. Forgent has a $3 billion backlog, and its bookings jumped 375%. Oracle has $664 billion in contracted future revenue, though its shares are down about 60% from their high. Brookfield plans a $100 billion data centre campus in Kentucky with NextEra Energy. Frankel warns that a slowdown in hyperscaler spending would hurt all five.

Lumentum falls 11% as Marvell deal risk overshadows $1.6B revenue outlook

Lumentum, an optical-component supplier to AI data centres, fell 11.03% to $748.01 at 10:05 ET on November 2. Investors weighed the risk around Marvell's proposed takeover of the company. Marvell would give Lumentum shareholders 4.5 of its shares for each share they hold. The payout's dollar value therefore moves with Marvell's share price. The announced reference value of $1,132 offers no guaranteed cash floor. Lumentum forecast second-quarter revenue of $1.575 billion to $1.625 billion, up from $1.26 billion in the first quarter. The $1.6 billion midpoint is roughly 27% higher. It expects adjusted operating margin of 45%–46%, compared with 42.3% before.

Marvell to acquire Lumentum in stock deal, targeting $550B AI interconnect market

Marvell Technology said it will buy Lumentum in an all-stock deal valued at $1,132 per Lumentum share. The deal brings together two of the fastest-growing suppliers of AI infrastructure. The combined company would blend electrical and optical technologies to meet the growing interconnect needs of next-generation AI systems. It expects to offer a full-stack interconnect range and to mass-produce proven, optimised optical modules, helping customers reach market sooner. Marvell puts the combined company's total addressable market at $550 billion. It expects annual cost savings of more than $1 billion, and the deal should add to its non-GAAP earnings per share in the first year after closing.

Marvell falls 14% in a week on reported talks to buy $83B Lumentum

Marvell Technology shares fell 14% in the past week after Bloomberg reported the company is in advanced talks to buy Lumentum. The deal would push Marvell deeper into AI networking, where Broadcom competes, and leave Coherent as the main laser maker not controlled by a chip designer. Lumentum was worth about $83 billion at the time of the report, more than a third of Marvell's own value. Marvell held only $3.93 billion in cash as of August 1, so a deal would reportedly be paid in shares. Marvell's share count rose 19% after it bought Inphi largely with stock. Chip stocks then fell after Intel gave a weak fourth-quarter outlook, and Marvell dropped another 10% on Friday. Lumentum reports on November 5, and the talks could still collapse.
