Figma makes design software that runs in a web browser, where designers, developers, and product managers create apps and websites together. Its first public release in 2016 brought Google Docs-style live editing to professional design, so several people could work in the same file at once. Teams draw screens and clickable prototypes in Figma Design, brainstorm on the FigJam whiteboard, and hand designs to engineers through Dev Mode, while Figma Make turns written prompts into working prototypes and apps. Anyone can start on a free plan, and companies pay a monthly or yearly fee for each user, plus extra for heavy AI use. Figma was founded in 2012 and is based in San Francisco.
