About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Five years of engineering experience are required.
  • Strong configuration and bill-of-materials management experience on engineer-to-order, configure-to-order, or serialized products, with proficiency in SAP, Windchill, or equivalent product lifecycle management or enterprise resource planning systems.
  • A track record of improving factory throughput and first-pass yield and reducing warranty through structured corrective action and design-for-reliability.
  • Ability to improve first-pass yield and reduce start-up issue rates through proactive line support and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Skill in managing Engineering Change Notices to minimize lead time and maximize first-time accuracy, with traceability from issue identification through resolution and verification.
  • Proficiency in using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D to address field quality issues, reduce warranty costs, improve mean time between failures, and prevent recurrence.
  • Proficiency in maintaining bill-of-materials accuracy and ensuring specification conformance during gate reviews and production audits.
  • Ability to talk and hear, manipulate objects or controls, stand and walk regularly, and occasionally stoop, bend, reach above the shoulders, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform frequent and continuous computer-based work involving periods of sitting, close vision, and adjustment of focus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily technical support to Operations for line builds, start-up, testing, PPAP and first articles, and build issues; triage and resolve shop-floor defects and barriers, coordinate fast-turn fixes and interim containment, and drive permanent corrective actions.
  • Partner with plant leadership across manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to meet SQDRC targets and ensure bills of material, routings, and drawings reflect the current build standard for commercial and industrial products.
  • Manage material lifecycle activities, including excess and obsolete material and product cannibalization impacts.
  • Support the Sustaining organization with 8D, root cause analysis using methods such as 5 Why and Fishbone, interim and permanent corrective actions, and reliability analyses to improve field performance and reduce rework and warranty.
  • Support configuration management for assigned products and ensure bill-of-materials accuracy across planning, production, and service variants.
  • Chair or drive supplier-driven change review board inputs for the assigned scope and manage Engineering Change Notices from identification through validation and release.
  • Work cross-functionally with Service, Operations, Supply Chain, Product Development Engineering, Product Management, NPD and Systems Engineering, Compliance and Test, and plant functions to prevent recurrence, standardize parts and options, and mature design-for-reliability, design for manufacturing, and advanced quality planning across platforms.
  • Use visual management, daily standups, and tiered escalation to speed decision-making across plants and functions.
  • Foster collaboration between engineering departments to identify and adopt engineering concepts, technologies, techniques, standards, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement the escalation process across Generac businesses to ensure rapid response, accurate root cause evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions to escalated issues.
  • Support existing product designs through root cause analysis, problem resolution, cost reduction, product improvement, and lifecycle product support through process improvement, design modifications, or specification changes.
  • Manage engineering aspects of the escalation process within Generac.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ownership of cross-functional problem solving, including 8D, FMEA linkages, verification and validation, Engineering Change Notice execution, and manufacturing support.
  • Experience with diesel or natural gas generator sets, power systems, controls, or related commercial and industrial equipment, and understanding of UL, NEC, and applicable compliance standards.
  • Previous experience using SAP or an equivalent enterprise resource planning system.
