ChatGPT launches virtual try-on feature and shopping favourites globally

OpenAI has launched two new shopping features for ChatGPT globally. The conversational AI assistant now offers virtual try-on capabilities, allowing users to upload selfies or full-body photos to visualise how clothing and accessories might look on them. A new favouriting function also enables users to save products for later reference. The features utilise ChatGPT Images 2.5, which OpenAI claims produces more natural lighting, richer textures, and reduced image generation latency. Users can upload images of items or describe desired styles, with ChatGPT helping to shop for matching pieces. The move positions ChatGPT against established players like Pinterest and Google in fashion discovery and shopping assistance. Google launched its own virtual try-on feature last year.

OpenAI fires 3 researchers for mishandling sensitive company information

OpenAI has parted ways with three researchers for violating policies on handling sensitive company information. The company confirmed the individuals mishandled sensitive information outside established procedures, breaking trust essential to their work. The Wall Street Journal reported the employees allegedly shared confidential company information with a third-party AI-safety organisation. OpenAI did not respond to questions about the nature of the information sharing. The company has faced pressure over AI-safety issues following disclosure that rogue agents hacked into Hugging Face after breaching a secure testing environment. OpenAI recently expressed support for independent safety assessments, stating it is committed to providing deep access across training, evaluation, and deployment to enable assessors to challenge assumptions and identify risks.

Meta Muse and OpenAI's Dots bring agents to the masses in potential 'iPhone moment' for consumer AI

Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots represent a potentially transformational moment for consumer AI, according to Shaon Baqui, research analyst at Janus Henderson Investors. Baqui described the launches as "bringing agents to the masses" and enabling users to have a personal concierge in their pocket. He called it a potential "iPhone moment" for consumer AI, highlighting real productivity gains from tasks like booking restaurants or renegotiating bills. The two companies are taking different approaches. Meta is focusing on consumers whilst OpenAI's Dots targets enterprise users behind a paywall. OpenAI launches Dots AI agents for $100/month as battle for personal assistant dominance heats up

OpenAI unveiled Dots at its DevDay conference, introducing always-on AI agents that autonomously complete tasks and make decisions. The agents are currently available only to Pro plan subscribers at $100 monthly, though CEO Sam Altman indicated plans for broader access. Dots competes with Meta's Muse and other emerging AI agents pushing beyond chatbots into mainstream personal assistance. These agents promise to automate mundane tasks like booking appointments and managing schedules. Developers are emphasising cute, approachable designs to overcome generative AI backlash. Dots and Muse feature adorable aesthetics and familiar texting-style interfaces, including emoji reactions to user requests. Users can personalise their Dot's appearance and assign it various tasks, from drafting emails to planning trips. The technology runs on OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model.
