About the job

Requirements
  • Have 5–8 years of experience in fraud, trust and safety, risk, or a closely related data science domain, including meaningful work with fraud data.
  • Have strong SQL and Python skills and use code to answer questions rather than primarily to build pipelines.
  • Have a strong understanding of machine learning concepts applied to fraud, including classification models, feature engineering, precision/recall tradeoffs, threshold calibration, and score drift.
  • Have experience analyzing large-scale behavioral or transactional datasets to find patterns and anomalies.
  • Be able to communicate technical findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders, write forensic investigation reports, and present findings to risk executives.
  • Have customer-facing experience and understand how to account for different business priorities.
  • Have a Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, or Economics degree, or equivalent experience.
Responsibilities
  • Work with the Trust and Safety Architect and Data Science teams to identify emerging fraud patterns across the network, escalate them, and proactively take them down.
  • Detect patterns and turn findings into sharper signals, tighter configurations, and smarter decisioning logic.
  • Work across verticals and closely with customers, partners, and prospects with differing risk appetites and objectives, including optimizing approval rates, minimizing chargebacks, and fighting account takeover and other abuse.
  • Build dashboards, tune and build models, and develop decision logic and custom signals to help customers achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Identify false positives, coverage gaps, and vulnerabilities by investigating raw event streams; form hypotheses, design tests, and implement fixes.
  • Lead forensic investigations during fraud spikes, trace attack patterns to their sources, identify techniques, and deliver written findings with remediation steps.
  • Distinguish one-off anomalies from systemic gaps that indicate product opportunities and advocate for those opportunities with evidence.
  • Contribute to detection frameworks, investigative tooling, and internal playbooks that improve the effectiveness of engineers and analysts.
  • Connect customer realities with the internal roadmap so field observations inform product development.
  • Travel as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Have hands-on experience with fraud detection platforms, whether in-house or third-party.
  • Have hands-on experience building with AI, including large language model APIs, prompt engineering, or agentic workflows for automating investigation steps, surfacing patterns from raw data, or accelerating fraud analysis.
  • Be familiar with real-time event processing systems.
  • Have experience with rules-based decisioning systems alongside machine learning, including knowing when to use a hard rule instead of a model score.
  • Have a background in payments, e-commerce, fintech, marketplaces, or account security fraud.
  • Have prior forward-deployed, staff engineering, or embedded consulting experience at a technical product company.
