Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Cytotechnologist in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in screening and interpreting cytology specimens, including Pap smears, non-gynecological specimens, and body fluids.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy while working with delicate specimens.
- Excellent knowledge of cytological criteria, classification systems, and quality assurance measures.
- Familiarity with Meditech, Soarian, and other relevant software applications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle a high volume of cases efficiently.
- Experience in high-volume cytology laboratories.
- Experience with Rapid On-Site Evaluation.
- Experience with ThinPrep, SurePath, digital cytology imaging systems, or similar platforms.
- Prior exposure to CAP and/or Joint Commission inspections.
- A Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited cytotechnology program or another program accepted by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners.
- Education must meet CLIA high-complexity testing personnel standards.
- An active, unrestricted New Jersey Cytotechnologist License.
- National certification in cytotechnology, such as CT (ASCP) or another nationally recognized certifying body accepted by New Jersey and CLIA.
- Licensure and certification must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
Responsibilities
- Perform microscopic examinations of cellular samples, including Pap smears, fine needle aspirations, body fluid specimens, and other required specimens.
- Identify and classify cellular abnormalities, including precancerous and cancerous cells, infectious agents, and other pathological conditions.
- Accurately document and interpret findings using established protocols and guidelines.
- Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss abnormal findings and provide additional information for patient management.
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionality and quality assurance.
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Stay updated with advances in cytology techniques and participate in continuing education to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Assist with quality control measures and participate in proficiency testing programs.
