About the company

What critics are saying

  • Job security is shaky: about 8,000 employees were hit by Meta's May 2026 layoffs, aimed at funding its AI push.

What makes Meta unique

  • Meta's four apps form one huge audience: 3.56 billion people used them daily in March 2026.

Meta launches Waddle World, an AI Tamagotchi-style pet app, in the Philippines

Meta has launched Waddle World, an AI-powered virtual pet app that resembles a Tamagotchi. It is available in the Philippines on iOS and Android, and was spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra. Users hatch a pixel pet, feed it, and play with it in a 16-bit world. The app also works as a journal: users describe their day by voice or text, and the pet writes an entry with a doodle. It offers mini-games and can send a weekly email based on what it learned about the user. Meta says the app is not a chatbot or a habit builder, and has no streaks or scores. It is rated for users over 18. The launch may be a test, or a precursor to a Tamagotchi-like gadget powered by Muse.

Nvidia's $3B Meta stake fuels circular AI economy fears as Meta seeks $95B

Nvidia is buying $3 billion of shares in Meta, one of its biggest customers, as Meta moves to raise up to $95 billion in equity to fund its AI spending. Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom have agreed to buy as much as $5 billion of the shares between them. Nigel Green, chief executive officer of deVere Group, called it a sign of a "circular AI economy" in which chipmakers buy shares in the companies that buy their chips. "Sooner or later, someone outside the circle has to pick up the bill," he said. Meta will start with $35 billion of underwritten offerings, followed by a $60 billion at-the-market sale from early 2027. Its projected 2026 capital expenditure is $135 billion to $145 billion. Nvidia put $100 billion into OpenAI in 2025 and has joined 121 funding rounds this year, up from 13 in 2022.
