Requirements
  • Graduate from a recognized School of Radiology Sciences.
  • Meet mammography-specific requirements through at least 40 hours of documented mammography training and documented digital mammography training, or complete the stated on-the-job training program and attain Mammography certification within the specified timeframe.
  • Hold Basic Life Support certification.
  • Hold American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification in radiography.
  • Be eligible for or hold advanced American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification in Mammography and meet Food and Drug Administration/Mammography Quality Standards Act continuing education requirements of at least 15 mammography-specific continuing education units in a 36-month period.
  • Obtain intravenous certification as necessary and administer contrast agent as required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform mammography examinations, screenings, and diagnostic studies, and assist during invasive procedures.
  • Detect breast tissue abnormalities under physician direction and present them to the physician for diagnosis.
  • Deliver patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Operate mammography equipment and perform mammography-related examinations to produce radiograph images for clinical screening and diagnostic purposes.
  • Position patients and breasts appropriately, instruct patients throughout procedures, and adjust compression mechanisms and equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Provide staff and patient protection in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards.
  • Document patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting.
  • Obtain complete and accurate patient histories and deliver care and support services before, during, and after mammogram procedures, including explaining procedures and answering inquiries.
  • Maintain mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance, following use instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, and maintaining the equipment.
  • Perform related technologist duties, including quality assurance and quality control activities, as directed by the lead technologist, supervisor, or manager.
  • Maintain continuing education required for licenses and the job position.
  • Respond to emergent situations by applying appropriate measures.
  • Travel between Jefferson sites as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Six months to one year of experience.
  • Food and Drug Administration/Mammography Quality Standards Act qualification, including at least 15 mammography-specific continuing education units in a 36-month period.
  • Mammography Registry eligibility with six months to attain Mammography certification.
