About the company

Tesla makes electric cars and batteries that store power for homes and utilities, and it develops self-driving software and humanoid robots. In 2023, its Model Y became the first electric vehicle to rank as the world's best-selling car. Buyers order the Model 3 sedan, Model Y SUV, or Cybertruck pickup directly from Tesla instead of through dealers, and they charge on its Supercharger fast-charging network. It also sells Megapack and Powerwall batteries, runs a robotaxi service, and charges drivers a monthly fee for self-driving software that still needs their supervision. Tesla was founded in 2003, with Elon Musk as its lead early investor and a recognized co-founder, and it is based in Austin, Texas.

Tesla stock at 352x earnings: why $1,000 may barely grow in three years

Tesla's stock looks unlikely to deliver much growth over the next three years, according to a Motley Fool analysis, as a $1,000 investment faces a valuation that already prices in big expectations. Tesla trades at a price-to-earnings multiple of 352, against an average of 24 for the S&P 500. The premium rests on faith in Elon Musk's future projects, not on its core EV business, which faces rising competition in China and Europe. Second-quarter revenue rose 26% year over year to $28.2 billion. Operating income fell 57% to $398 million, as price cuts and heavy spending on AI and robotics squeezed margins. Tesla burned through $1.09 billion in the quarter. S&P Global estimated in July 2025 that robotaxis could make up 45% of automotive revenue by 2030.

Musk unveils flying electric car and plans SpaceX share giveaway for every US child

Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi says Elon Musk has had a "monumental" five days. Musk, founder of SpaceX and Tesla, unveiled what Sozzi calls the world's first flying car, an electric model that can perform mid-air barrel rolls. Musk also announced that every child in America will receive one share of SpaceX stock starting next year. Sozzi says that could amount to billions of dollars. Sozzi dismissed sceptics who say the moves distract from weak earnings at SpaceX and Tesla, or aim to repair Musk's image after his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He said he is not calling Musk perfect, only weighing the facts as presented.

US stock futures rise before Meta, Tesla earnings as Brent falls 2.6% to $106.97

At 03:06 ET, Dow Jones futures were up 0.4%, S&P 500 futures 0.7%, and Nasdaq 100 futures 1.3%. Meta and Tesla report after the market close on Wednesday. Musk says the Tesla Roadster will be "sentient" and perform stunts itself, with $5,000 deposits

Elon Musk says the new Tesla Roadster "will be sentient" and that owners can ask it to perform its stunts autonomously, he wrote on X. The car debuted on October 15 at a SpaceX test site in McGregor, Texas, where it launched off a ramp, flipped in midair and cleared parked Teslas using cold-gas thrusters. Musk also promised a looping test track at Tesla's Texas headquarters. Neither feature has a date; production is set for 2028, and no price was announced. Reservations reopened. The Performance model needs $5,000 at signup, described as refundable, plus $45,000 within ten days. The Thrust costs $250,000, with $245,000 due within ten days. Tesla does not guarantee delivery. Tesla shares closed down 2.13% at $354.72 on October 16.

Tesla wins appeal as court blocks class action over self-driving claims

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has reversed class certification in a lawsuit over Tesla's full self-driving (FSD) claims. The October 16, 2026 ruling in LoSavio v. Tesla covers two damages classes and one injunctive-relief class of California buyers. The panel found that individual questions about what each buyer saw before purchase made class treatment inappropriate. The challenged statement sat on an Autopilot page that buyers did not need to visit. The case returns to US District Judge Rita Lin and continues. Individual buyers can still sue, but few will, as legal costs would exceed their recovery. Tesla denies the claims. Tesla shares closed at $354.72, down 2.13%, in line with a broader tech selloff. It reports third-quarter results on October 21.
