Requirements
  • Graduate from high school or have a general education degree.
  • Have six months to one year of related experience and/or training.
  • Communicate, speak, read, and write effectively in English.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Present information effectively and respond to questions from supervisors, staff, and the public.
  • Perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Perform math operations using units of American money.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
  • Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Hold a valid Alaska Driver’s License.
  • Have experience with personal computers and Microsoft Word.
  • Lift or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Have experience using office machines.
  • Sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, tools, and controls, reach with hands and arms, and periodically stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance.
  • Possess the vision abilities required for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Be willing and able to travel within and outside of the North Slope Borough School District and fly in small and large commuter planes.
Responsibilities
  • Provide office and clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the department.
  • Screen visitors and telephone calls and direct them to the appropriate person or department.
  • Screen and route incoming mail.
  • Compose, type, and copy correspondence and other materials.
  • Maintain a filing system.
  • Obtain, gather, and organize pertinent data as required.
  • Schedule appointments, make travel arrangements, and assemble materials for meetings.
  • Assist with enrollment of students.
  • Maintain accurate student cumulative folders.
  • Maintain accurate personnel and attendance records and report problems to the supervisor.
  • Place orders for materials, verify quantities delivered, and distribute materials accordingly.
  • Supervise students as directed.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
  • Support the value of education and the philosophy and mission of the District.
  • Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Inupiaq-speaking ability and cultural experience are preferred.
