About the Job

Requirements

  • At least three years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant field, from an accredited university.
  • Experience applying engineering fundamentals in mechanical design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing methodology.
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, and specifications to develop written work instructions and test procedures.
  • Hands-on hardware manufacturing experience, including machining, welding, assembly, nondestructive testing, leak testing, and manufacturing execution systems.
  • A track record of completing manufacturing projects involving design for manufacturability and assembly, cycle-time reduction, and mistake-proofing.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment supporting constantly evolving design iterations.

Responsibilities

  • Own manufacturing work instructions for hardware processes, including inspection, fabrication, assembly, testing, and integration.
  • Manage build sequence, cost, quality, and schedule across the manufacturing lifecycle.
  • Review drawings, approve manufacturing processes, and make go/no-go decisions.
  • Build process controls and statistical analysis frameworks.
  • Design, procure, and install custom manufacturing equipment and fixtures.
  • Execute capacity analysis and root-cause investigations, and deploy fixes.
  • Create bills of materials, routings, and work instructions for fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Drive design for manufacturability and assembly and design-for-excellence principles into design processes.
  • Generate, manage, and rapidly close nonconformances.
  • Lead test procedures and operate automated test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot anomalies in real time and develop recovery plans.
  • Analyze and archive test data and generate verification artifacts.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace or high-reliability valve and thruster design and production.
  • A demonstrated history in the design and manufacture of aerospace or high-reliability valves.
  • At least five years of dedicated experience in mechanical engineering roles with practical machining or assembly involvement.
  • Computer-aided design expertise using Creo, NX, or similar tools for designing valve components or assemblies.
  • Advanced skills in special machining processes critical to valve production, such as computer numerical control or micro-machining.
  • Experience with testing protocols specific to aerospace valves, including high-pressure, cryogenic, and environmental testing.

About the Company

Blue Origin

Builds rockets, engines and lunar spacecraft

Blue Origin builds rockets, engines and spacecraft for commercial satellite operators and government space programs. Its New Glenn orbital rocket uses a reusable first stage, while Blue Moon landers are designed to transport cargo and astronauts to the lunar surface. The company designs and manufactures liquid-fueled propulsion systems, and its New Shepard vehicle is built for short suborbital trips carrying people and research payloads. Customers pay for launch services and engines, and government development contracts fund work on systems for exploration beyond Earth orbit. Founded by Jeff Bezos in 2000, Blue Origin is headquartered in Kent, Washington.
