Caterpillar stock rose 94% over the past twelve months, driven partly by surging data center demand. Power generation sales to users grew 72% in the second quarter of 2026, with the Power & Energy segment booking $8.2 billion in sales. The company is racing to expand capacity, lifting new turbine production to 2.5 times 2024 levels. Lead times on gas prime power now extend to late 2028, with some orders placed as far out as 2030. However, analysts question whether data center demand will sustain through the decade. At $805 per share, Caterpillar's valuation assumes 17.4% annual revenue growth. Management expects new capacity to reach cash payback by decade's end, but aftermarket revenue from installed units won't materialise until after 2030. If data center orders cool before capacity investments pay off, growth could fall short of market expectations.
Caterpillar Inc. has announced a collaboration with FieldAI to deploy artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital twin technology across industrial jobsites and manufacturing facilities. The partnership combines Caterpillar's operational data and engineering capabilities with FieldAI's robot-agnostic autonomy software and foundation models. Initial applications include autonomous inspections, real-time digital twins of facilities, and situational awareness tools. The companies are using Nvidia accelerated computing and Nvidia Omniverse technologies to develop high-fidelity digital twins based on operational data. FieldAI has raised more than $400 million from investors including Bezos Expeditions, Khosla Ventures, Temasek, and NVentures. Caterpillar reported sales and revenues of $67.6 billion for 2025. No financial terms for the collaboration were disclosed.
Caterpillar Inc. has entered into a new 364-day revolving credit facility dated 27 August 2026, according to an SEC filing. The agreement includes Caterpillar Inc. and several of its financial subsidiaries as borrowers, with Citibank serving as agent. Citibank, BofA Securities, JPMorgan Chase Bank, J.P. Morgan SE, Barclays Bank, MUFG Bank and Société Générale are joint lead arrangers and joint bookrunners on the facility. The agreement provides for revolving credit advances, local currency advances, Japan local currency advances and term loan advances. It includes financial covenants applicable to Caterpillar and Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation. The facility replaces a prior credit agreement and includes a guaranty from Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation.
Caterpillar stock has fallen 25.9% from its 52-week high of $1,073.46 reached on 30 June and has declined 9.2% over the past three months, underperforming the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which rose 5.7% during the same period. However, over the past 52 weeks, the Irving, Texas-based construction and mining equipment manufacturer has surged 82.8%, outpacing the Dow's 17.4% gain. On 4 August, Caterpillar shares rose 5.6% after reporting better-than-expected second-quarter 2026 results. The company posted revenue of $20.5 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $8.17, both exceeding Wall Street forecasts. Among 23 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is "Moderate Buy", with a mean price target suggesting 27.4% upside from current levels.
Caterpillar's construction equipment demand drivers have shifted significantly over the past two years. The company previously attributed Construction Industries growth to merchandising programmes, which management credited for 5% full-year sales growth in 2025. Now, rental fleet loading — machines purchased by dealers for their rental operations — has become the primary growth driver. Construction Industries sales to users rose 22% in the June 2026 quarter, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of growth. The segment generated $8.3 billion in Q2 2026, up 35% year-over-year. Construction Industries now accounts for approximately 34% of Caterpillar's $74.7 billion trailing-twelve-month revenue. Management also highlighted Major Projects, a Cat dealer-owned rental joint venture launched in June 2026, which serves large-scale infrastructure, energy, and data centre builds.
